The question is would their be a algorithm for this chaos? The system turns over employees at larger companies does it effect smaller companies that offer sign on bonus?

A sign on bonus is a sure sign that a company is having problems keeping butts in the seats.

the only "rhythm" i see is dissatisfied drivers being promised things or thinking things they should be getting. not everyone LISTENS to the HR dept or recruiters to exactly what they say, nor do they ask the proper questions, regarding pay, benefits, time off, equipment.

amny companies have either bi-yearly pay raises, or yearly pay raises, NOT monthly or weekly. some drivers simply wish to not wait till the time comes for that pay raise and start demanding more money. when CDL schools churn out new drivers daily, the companies can pick and choose who to hire and who to fire. they will most certainly fore the loud mouths.

it has been KNOWN that company recruiters LIE at the beginning and continue to do so, but some people either wish to NOT listen to them or ignore what is said once they hear the pay. many do not hear it may take "UP TO" 3 years to get to top rate, in pay and benefits.

no one is ever really satisfied in the beginning of any job and subsequently jump ship way too soon. this too is hurtful in thier future, as not too many companies would want to chance hiring a jumper.

back in the olden days, jumping from job to job was "the norm". today, it is not so.

it shows lack of commitment. would i hire someone with a list of former employers yard long?

    hell no.

one or two jobs in say 8 years, maybe, as it shows me, that person stuck around for a while.

Local food delivery service company I use to drive for was running a radio ad $10k sign on bonus to the first 5 qualified drivers who referenced that ad.

    Its not worth it.

no, cuz then they have requirements to MEET that bonus.

like maybe no sick days, no lateness to work or to the deliveries

    maybe no bad inspections

    maybe no complaints,

    maybe no body odor..

the list can be huge, and it usually takes 6 months to a year to get it all, and if they include that with your regular paycheck, say hello to the tax man. that $10,000 bonus may actually end up being $5,000

the issue of turnover will never be resolved the way things are now even the big private fleets and ltl companies have it anymore whether or not they want to admit to it these companies can buy the biggest trucks the fastest trucks and pay the biggest bucks and give all the sign on bonuses they want for me anyway money dosent solve everything companies spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on recruiters they dont even need it boils down to honesty companies just want tell the truth anymore when i first started 31 yrs ago recruiters were unheard of its not a driver shortage nowadays either its a shortage of people willing to be worked to death and treated like crap nobody wants to do this profession anymore its just a means to an end till they can do better and the old guys like me are leaving because of the insane micromanagment and devices and the dumbing down of it to make it snowflake millenial video game generation friendly tooooooo much free work and disrespect anymore from all sides and until managment listens to the folks actually doing the job instead of some two year logistics degree know it all there will always be TURNOVER CAUSE WE ARE TIRED OF BENDING OVER!!!!!!!!!!

Not necessarily. Some good companies go through stages of expansion of fleet size.

And those "great companies" that keep drivers for a long time, eventually lose portions of their drivers to "age", and these must be replaced as they hang it up.

Then we all suffer various family changes such as marriage, divorce, death of loved one, etc. These events can cause priorities and needs to change. That OTR job for 4+ week tours may no longer be ideal. So, things change that require a change in jobs, having nothing to do with the carrier being "good" or not. A carrier is what they are. A mid-size 48 state OTR reefer carrier can not ever be expected to offer a home weekends slot, or a local slot because your situation changed. You must find another carrier.

And it's just the nature of the business for drivers to want to move. Maybe the company is just not a good fit for some. Maybe they did not listen to the information provided, and when "4+ week tours is required here" ... they heard "2-4 weeks out is typical" and learned 3 months into the job that it's not a good fit for them.

And it's no secret EVERY carrier must get 10 applicants into orientation just to end up with maybe three who mesh well and can make it through the first 12 months.

Fact is ALL carriers need to continually hire drivers and you have to compete to attract your fair shar of applicants. And many are ONLY enticed by "sign-on bonus". I'm not a fan of the sign on bonus, but right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

Sorry, but I totally disagree with the idea that because one offers a sign on bonus, they probably "aren't any good". That's ridiculous on its face given all the realities of trucking and all it's different segments.

So, to summarize ... ALL carriers are going to have turnover to one degree or another, for one reasons(s) or another. It can never be eliminated altogether, no matter.

It affects the entire industry and which is why every company is hiring.Trucking is the same no matter who you drive for and its never going to change on the drivers behalf. The sign on bonus is just a gimkic to lure in the drivers.Little do driver know you have to be there for so long before you qualify and companies don't pay the bonus in one lump sum unless its $500.00 or less.

want to end this madness, toughen up the licensing process and weed out the bad drivers to actually create a shortage and then companies will not treat drivers like a commodity.
