Rookie here....'95 T-600, I use it to pull my RV, gets little use. I'm a little slow on battery maintenance, owned the truck for 4 years, batteries are giving me starting problems so I took 'em out yesterday to clean, clean connections, de-sulfate and charge individually...4 batteries, but only 3 batteries were hooked up. No cables for 4th battery, no indication that it was ever hooked up.....what gives ?

The schematic I have seen shows 3 or 4 batteries.
I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to use 4, except perhaps to save money, weight or space???

Thanks....So maybe the previous owner was using it just to even out the battery hold down bracket.....after 4 years of not being hooked up, it still registered 6 volts !

usually they sell small jumper leads that go from one battery to the other only like 6" in length, there wont be any seperate wires going to that battery as they all should be connected in unisun with the one next to them with these short 6" 0 guage jumper leads.

I would put all 4 of them to work cause when it gets cold you are going to need the extra cranking power.

No short stub cables either....strange....maybe it was only designed to have 3 in service. As for the cold, one of the benefits of being retired and a fulltime RV'er....you tend to migrate towards warm weather in the winter, cool weather in the summer.... thanks.

they probably removed them, it may be possible the battery not hooked up has a dead cell. depending on the hookup you can have 3 good batteries and one bad one and the truck wont start. have that battery tested and if ok just buy two showrt cables to hook it up

Do you have two negative and two positive power cables, as well as two of each jumpers? You probably put the batteries in the wrong way. They should not be like this:

    IIII

    But like this:

How old are the batteries? I change mine every 2 years.

I have definitely pushed my luck with the batteries....4+ years....I have been charging the batteries one at a time at 25 amps...even the one that was completely disconnected for over 4 years took a 12.6v charge, I put another one on the charger at 25 amp setting, went away for 3 hours and came back to find the charger had fried...literally, the alligator clamps were melted and misshapen....I think I found the source of my problems. Regardless, I will be buying a new charger and replace all four batteries...and purchase a set of jumpers that are missing.

    Thanks for the replies
