Truck stops are not truck stops anymore...They are now travel centers and they cater to the 4 wheeler...Seems to me like the big 4 just forget what they opened the business for in the first place..TRUCKS!!

If it were not for the trucks buying fuel and keeping them in business there would be no need for them to be there! When was the last time a 4 wheeler came in and spent $300 in their shop for an oil change?? Or put $500 worth of fuel in the gas tank during one fill up? Never.

They used to have a diesel desk to handle only fuel related purchases and all other business was done at the other cashier....Now because it is a travel center you have to stand behind someone buying chips, a soda, a hot dog and trying to pay with a debit card that does not have sufficient funds for their purchase, just to get your fuel ticket..

Oh and by the way driver if you resemble the person buying chips and a soda at the diesel desk...USE THE OTHER FRICKKING REGISTER FOR THAT!

If no trucks stop at a travel center to buy fuel would they survive??

Sounds like a good opportunity for someone with some money, to invest in a better truckstop concept.

I find that T/A's have the filthiest parking lots. Like they've been around for 15 years and never once power washed it. Ever. That disgusting black crud that is baked onto the pavement... it's so disgusting you don't ever see even rodents walking across it. I'm pretty sure that's how they keep the rats away...

They would. There is little to no profit in diesel and gas sales. Even less with the discounts given to companies to get the trucks in there, you are talking a few cents at most profit. The pop, chips, and tourist crap is where the money is. Fountain pop and coffee that truckers love are 70% profit or more. Shop services i couldnt guess profit lines on, I would guess pm services are on the low end justnlike a jiffy lube. Truckers arent the focus anymore its the cars and rv drivers. Truckers are volume, 4 wheelers are profit.

You can build a better "truck stop" that will bring in the customers. You have to find a niche. Little America and the Jubitz found that niche. Iowa 80, found it as well. Not as good as the other 2 I might add. Instead of Subway, how about a Chipolte or something different? Maybe a Caribou Coffee? Drivers and 4 wheelers would stop for choices like that in a second. How about a little trucking history in there too? Guys like me love that stuff. Instead of the Barjan crap-o-rama they sell, that's overpriced and not worth the money, how about some different items? The bullet/lighter/flashlight/comb/tire pressure checker for $15 isn't selling to anyone but a small fizzling clientele. Building a better truck stop can be done. Just got to get out of that classic mentality of what they think truckers used to be. We are a bit more "refined" than they give us credit for.

There would be more TS's except the regulations make it impossible. Takes years in some states for environmental permits. Then you get the NIMBY thing from the locals.

Another reason when I hate TA. They roll up and close at like 10 pm. Trucking is 24 hours. Unless you're hungry and at a TA. Piss on you TA.

There's two truck stops in ND and SD that have a pizza Hut, subway, and caribou coffee in them.

    joseph1135 Thanks this.
