My point is your gearing may be all wrong for the job. I've got HH trucks that get better mileage than that pulling 80k.
T880 with bad mpg.

Turning about 1600 - 1700 rpm at 75 mph. 9th gear finishes out about 60 mph. Keep in mind we're not coast to coast haulers. We do a lot for back roads and mountains in the southeast. -
Those trailers are just open up top, right?
I have hopper bottom trailers, if I drive down the highway without the tarps closed, I can feel the effect of the air dragging in there like a parachute.
Problem a half mile per gallon there, plus the truck should be a mid roof to match the height of the trailer. Another couple of points there. -
If you are running 75 mph a lot, that will hurt mpg too.

Keep in mind we are comparing the two trucks. Same gearing, trans, tires, trailer, driver, driving style, load, route. The newer truck get almost 1mpg less than the other 3.8 mpg
