Ok...today when I went to start my truck it turned over slow and then started like there was a battery issue. I recently just replace two of the four batteries and at the time of replacement the other two batteries were still doing what they should. These were the original batteries that still checked out o.k.
I knew at some point I would change out the other two batteries to make it all new. Well today after the slow start I stopped at the TA shop in Commerce to have the batteries tested to see if the other two went bad....The charge for this was $47.00 if all four checked out good.
The tech put his battery tester on the new batteries and they checked out good...When He checked the older two , they of course were not doing what they were supposed to do and I needed to replace them.
The least inexpensive batteries were $140 a piece at a cost of $280 plus tax , Plus $50 labor for the 1/2 Hour minimum charge to put them in. I have no issue with buying the batteries and paying the labor to have this problem corrected.
The issue I have is I asked them Since I am buying the batteries from them after the battery test determined replacement , Would they waive the $47.00 test charge off the bill since I was spending over $300 to replace them.
The shop refused to waive the $47.00 test charge..
If I did not need any batteries then I would have no problem paying for a test, But am I wrong to gripe about getting the test charge taking off the bill since I spent $300 plus tax for the batteries and labor??
Tell me what you think
Ta commerce,ga shop complaint...tell me if i am wrong to gripe

Allways replace all batteries at the same time..
They had to preform a test to see if it was a battery issue and they found that issue. Would of been cheaper for you to go to Napa/ Farm and fleet etc and bought the batteries your self and installed them.
Turn the old ones in and get your core fee back for the batteries.
30 mins and you could of had them swaped out.MJ1657 and codyschmidt Thank this. -
Honestly if they wouldn't waive it I would just have either waited until tomorrow and stopped into a parts house and picked them up for $100 a piece or just bought them from them and put them in myself. You already had everything apart. You just would have had to put them in and close everything up yourself.
codyschmidt and puncher Thank this. -
They would not wave the fee because they get paid on commision. If they were all hourly employees it would be different.

You Asked 4 it
You asked for the test and you paid for it that is fair. But now did you really loose $47...? No in my opinion you have learned a valuable lesson "Not to ask Dumb Questions" You Knew 2 of the 4 Batteries were new and 2 were Bad Right?..So why pay someone to tell you what you already Knew? Waste there time? After all If you were working as the TA Mechanic would you give that driver "You" a free pass? How R U Suppose to feed your family ?Don't feel bad I've been there and many drivers been there this is just part of truck driving academy boot camp.Consider your self very lucky you were not at the Freight Liner Shop asking them to check your Auto/Shift Transmission and after $700 worth of diagnostics you were told that your trany was gone. How would you feel then ?..platinum and codyschmidt Thank this. -
It's not just the labor time you are paying for..(I.e the minimum labor time charge)
Youre paying for knowledge, equipment and shop stall time.. While they are working on your truck, it's occupying space another truck is wanting to fill.
Do I agree with it? Yes and no, the shop doesn't depend on YOUR repeat business, so they don't care if your mad or not.
That's trucking.TruckDuo and codyschmidt Thank this. -
You want the best deal you can get, and that's normal. But you asked them to test your batteries for you, thus taking their time and using their equipment. They are fully in the right to charge you for that. Mechanics need to earn a living, too.
MJ1657 and codyschmidt Thank this. -
I would have thought this would be a free service, like every car part store now test the car battery for free, in hopes of getting you to buy one, same with the check engine code scanners, hoping you will buy the part from them. Little more work on a big truck I know than popping a hood. If it was me running a shop wouldn't charge if you bought the batteries and install if ones where bad. I can see T/A point also in it does take time to do it.

T/A has some weird policies.

That shop is the worst. I bought air filters during their $5 install deal, and Western Stars are a real pain to change filters on the road without pulling out a ladder. I go in to eat and didn't get a phone call. After an hour I go out to the shop and see this high school reject trying to ram an air filter in and it not working. He had already done the first one and this isn't rocket science. He had been puzzled over this for 15 minutes, and I walked over, flipped the filter 180 degrees and it worked! I wouldn't let them wash my windows at that shop.
