Legal ramification of what.....firing someone for breaking the law.....firing someone for putting a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of your invested money in danger , not to mention the customers product on the trailer , or the folks that driver put into harms way by driving like a complete and total idiot....glenn71 you need to get the main / primary rule of trucking in the proper perspective......safety 1st......foremost and without any doubt always....PERIOD

As a four-wheeler myself I appreciate the governed trucks - makes it much easier to drive the interstates when my speed limit is 75 and they are going 65 or under. More room for me to pass usually. Thanks, people. But I'm not a stupid driver who tailgates trucks, and I don't appreciate the trucks that try that with me. I'll get over as soon as I safely can because as far as I'm concerned I'm not fighting with a jerk - I'd lose big time. Four-wheelers do it, too, and I'm prone to tapping on my brakes as a warning, but they don't take the hint, either.

And while I'm at it, thanks to the Swift driver last Saturday about 6:30 pm on 294 near south end of Chicago for going 65. I didn't feel like keeping up with everyone else going 75+, so I just followed him for awhile. Didn't have to worry about being pulled over and made for a more relaxing drive. Seems to me like it was probably more relaxing for the Swift driver, too, not worrying about weaving in and out of traffic.

I hope I'm reading that as sarcasm....if not please explain to me just how putting the safe operation of your vehicle as the number priority being over confident.

Alright, my point being that every day is different and I don't presume to know everything on a given day (except what to say, after the fact... don't make me say it again).

I agree with you about safety coming first. I also agree that law-breakers should be terminated. But I'm not sure that a few phone calls from disgruntled four-wheelers is going to do the trick. If someone got fired for that, a good labor attorney would probably eat that company for lunch.

I know if I was terminated on those grounds I would be on my cel phone with an attorney before I even got kicked off the property.

Disclaimer: I am a safe driver who does not break the law and like everyone else rails on about crazy drivers. But, crazies have legal rights too. If they lose those rights, then collectively we lose ours.

Hi glenn, I agree, unless there's actually an accident or video proof, these cases are probably very hard to prove.

Exactly. Hearsay won't cut it. Like the safety guy says when you hit the deer:

    "Show me the meat."
