I called a few trucking companies today to see if they'll hire me. I have a class A cdl which I obtained with no formal schooling. I called Swift, spoke to a recruiter and he said that I can either go through their own school which entails a 13 month contract and costs more than 4K, etc, or I can take a 40 hour refresher course from a private truck driving school if I want to avoid going through Swift school. He also said if I can pass a behind the wheel test then I am hired, of course pending employment verification, etc.
I called a school called Dootson here in Los Angeles and they told me that it's not true, that all I need is a 10 lesson 5 hour refresher at $530 which they're asking, and they have a recruiter from Swift who will hire me. They also have many other major companies. I don't have any driving experience and I don't think 5 hours is enough for someone to hire me even with a CDL in hand. What do you think? Which route should I go?: Take a refresher class, or go with some company's own training?

unfortunately a recruiter doesn,t hire you. all they do is put you into orientation, so what the recruiter from dootson is saying is not true.i,ve gone to dootson b4 back in '97 and spent 3 monrths doing once a week class and didn,t learn that much. hope they changed since then
