If you have diabetes, take care of your feet! Small problems can be big trouble if you're not careful.
*Look at your feet every day to check for cuts, sores, blisters, redness, calluses, or other problems.

*If your skin is dry, rub lotion on your feet after you wash and dry them. Do not put lotion between your toes.

*File corns and calluses gently with an emery board or pumice stone. Do this after your bath or shower.

*Cut your toenails once a week or when needed. Cut toenails when they are soft from washing. Cut them to the shape of the toe and not too short. File the edges with an emery board.
*Always wear slippers or shoes to protect your feet from injuries.
*Always wear socks to avoid blisters. Do not wear socks that are too tight below your knee.

*Wear shoes that fit well. Shop for shoes at the end of the day when your feet are bigger. Break in shoes slowly. Wear them 1 to 2 hours each day for the first few weeks.

*Before putting your shoes on, feel the insides to make sure they have no sharp edges or objects that might injure your feet.

Be sure and check with your health care professional if you have any foot problems or questions.

This is a good report. Also, many drivers have diabetes and don't even know it. Then one day they see a dark spot on the bottom of a foot & it's too late. The dark spot is dead flesh and the foot will have to be amputated.
As soon as I started having trouble with high sugar levels I immediately went on Metformin and cut out the sugar in the coffee & now everything is normal.

Good info. The other thing I do is get a pedicure every couple of months. Sounds sissy like but really its a good way to take care of your feet along with the stuff mentioned above

Most drivers don't know it right away. It might be a year or two before that next physical.

Two clues are frequent urination and the mouth feeling dehydrated. Your kidneys go into overdrive trying to get rid of the excess sugar.

Eating fast food, sugared drinks, Little Debbie's/Hostess and sitting in the drivers seat all day is a quick recipe for type II diabetes.

You're absolutely right. Even every month would be good.

When I was here last, I noticed A LOT of questions, etc regarding how to eat when you have diabetes. Obviously, the truck driving profession has a harder time of following any special diet. I took a break from the forum to update and tweak my ebook on diabetes menus for truck drivers. It's at amazon, just type in 'easyhealth truck driver' in search and you should find it. It is a moderate carb level diet with menus that are written with the special needs of truck drivers in mind. Can also be used for diabetes prevention as far as weight loss. Be sure and check with your health provider before you change your diet or start an exercise program.
