I have a perfect MVR/DAC no points, accidents ever. I can pass a background check and a UA at a moments notice request to drop. I drove a 53 FT box for two years 04-06 and never an issue out on the road. I went back to work in the construction sales bizz for a number of years and the owner closed shop to retire. As of recent I trained for two weeks auto hauling and for many reasons decided to not stay with them. I don't want to spend to much time speaking poorly about the company. Let's just say a bad fit for me.

I just would like to haul freight and put in my time some where. Why is it so dam hard without two years recent experience behind the wheel to land a job. I'm a perfect fit for any company. I'm 36 with no kids and recently seperated. I can spend a full year on the road if needed. Nothing holding me back. I'm not going to pay another 7k for a little drive time with a truck driving school to get what I already have a class A CDL. I drove for 9 hrs @ 400 miles a fully loaded car hauler as of recent. If I couldn't drive that day would have proved it under those conditions from Cols OH to Flint and Troy MI. I will road test with anyone at any time to prove it.

I spoke with a guy that's an owner operator. He suggested I lie and have a buddy vouch for me about the past two years for recent experience. He told me it's the only way to get a job behind the wheel again.I'm just not comfortable doing this. I'm always an honest person and pride myself on that as a quality in a person. I have a truck driver friend that said to say I have been driving for him. What do you think. I need to get back to work before I lose everything, my sanity included.

So let's hear it, the good, the bad, the ugly...

the "lying part" may come back to bite you, and big time, for falsifying an application. many times in the past, people have used a former o/o as a reference, only to find that many o/o's have NO reputation or that another company simply WILL NOT accept an o/o as any source of employment, especially too since that many o/o's run illegally or have DONE SO in the past, so again, NO REPUTATION POINTS THERE.. do not forget, that many o/o's pay on a 1099 form, how does one PROVE that the 1099 work was a driver's job.>?? you can't.

i WOULD NOT go the lying route.

you can ALWAYS try the driver leasing companies. like Ryder, Ruan, Lily, Hermanns', MTS, etc, etc. many only require 6 months (with schooling) or at least one year.

no, this is NOT a good idea.

Have you tried a local manufacturer, or factory? Many run their own trucks, and aren't as particular when it comes to recent experience.

There are lots of smaller trucking companies out there that would hire you. You may even prefer to work for a smaller company after you do it for awhile. I know most of my career was with smaller companies, and I preferred it. It's nice to be able to get the boss on the phone at 2 a.m. if you have trouble, and not some idiot that knows nothing about trucking.
The possible drawback is that most of the smaller companies tend to stay regional so they can work on the trucks themselves. Also, the pay and benefits probably won't be as good as with the bigger carriers, but the BS is a lot less too.
I know a company in southeast Pa. that is always looking for good drivers. They are one of the few that run to the west coast, but the runs all start and end on the east coast. if you live there, PM me and I'll tell you who it is.
good luck with the job hunting.
I just noticed you're in Columbus. Maybe you might want to give the guy I'm talking about a call. I know he runs a lot of Ohio, has Regular runs to Lockbourne and Cincy, as well as Zanesville. Let me know.

Check out the closest Sage school to you. When I attended one 5 years ago there was a driver in my class with a CDL who was doing a "refresher course" required for a job he already had. It cost under $1000 and the school has a job placement service as well. They actually found him a better job by the end of his refresher.

There are companies that only require 2 years in the last 10.

    Keep looking around.
