Taking adavnces......I understand the reason`s why people take advance`s for food or other stuff you need on the road or maybe you`ve just started the job and need some help.It can be a vicious cycle and hard to break,I take them myself from time to time If needed. But my advice get a copy of the receipt for your own records.
When fueling and let`s say you don`t take an advance and your company takes money out of your check claiming you did take an advance,Always ask for proof. If you know you are right and they cannot provide proof,Like so many other problems in this industry robbing people blatantly and up in your face.Pursue action....For too long drivers have been robbed of their hard earned money and have sat by the sidelines in fear of losing their job for STANDING UP FOR YOURSELF.
Hey this is Trucking, they say drivers are a dime a dozen,Well in fact they are worth $10,000 a peice (Goverment gives company money for giving you a job)Most megafleets go through that program,What do you get out of that,Maybe A sign-on bonus with many strings attached.
I have in the past worked for some company`s with sign-on bonus`s,fuel bonus`s Etc. You get the point........
Dangling that Dollar in your Face.....It`s called CONTROL

while i understand the need for an advance. it's also a bad thing.

once you start that advance. you really can't afford to pay it back.

one advance leads to another, and another.

if you can't afford to live on your paychecks. it's time to find a better paying job.

There used to be some tax breaks and off-sets that carriers had for hiring someone off of unemployment but as far as I know all those credits are gone. They do thos now just trying to survive by having enough warm seats to insure no load goes uncovered.

    I'm currently living on advances.
Slow time of the year, and I spent too much on my last home time.
But my company only allows $100 per week, so it is not too hard to keep up with. Come Tuesday I'll be flush again.

We don't take advances through the fuel card, so I don't think I need to obtain those receipts.

    Hey, Storm...
How do you suggest we 'stand up for ourselves'?

don't know how it works with other companies, but the one's i've worked for. when we had to do advances for permits. it was accumulated onto our per diem at the end of the year.

tax write off the company, tax bill to the driver. i started using my own cash and requesting reimbursements. didn't sit well with the company.

$15 arizona permits and $60 new mexico trip permits. till the company finally opened a tax account with new mexico.

My company allows a driver to get $200 a week advance.. I have seen drivers take a $100 advance then in a coupke days take another $100..
If you need to get an advance for food and stuff.. think it through.. get the full $200 when you fuel tnen get to a walmart and buy food, water and stuff you need.. be smart about it and shop wise..

For me, I have a budget for when I am on tne road.. and I stick to it.. often I have some left over...
    But I spend wisely..
