Okay It's been a while since I posted last so a quick update first . I passed my testing for my permit last month and have been out on the road since ,am supposed to be getting routed back to Sprimo for testing and tnt phase .I've been having quite a bit of trouble with leg swelling ,and it has gotten worse since I fell at a TS last weekend . I knew to expect some swelling with the reduction in mobility ,and that part of it is from being overweight ,and I could probably do with a reduction to my sodium intake ,which I'm noticing isn't very easy with the limited options we have for food .And I have been trying to get out and walk when I can ,but not easy to do when under another person's schedule ,so looking for some other ideas .
Also to put things bluntly ,I've been urinating way too much . At home I went maybe twice after going to bed ,now am lucky if I only do 4. And it seems to be more frequent after bedtime .I filled two quart (32oz) Gatorade bottles one night . Now I would imagine some of it has to do with the swelling and my body retaining fluids ,but it's getting to be ridiculous .Yes , I know losing weight will help with this also ,I just can't do all I can to lose weight until I go solo and have room to bring some equipment and do in-cab workouts .Once again any help ,ideas and maybe the occaisional bad pun.

To put it bluntly...............go on bread and water.
Eat only a small hot meal once a day.
Forget soft,energy,........ drinks.
No candy off any kind.
Plenty off fruits.
Lots off salads(NOT with a big dressing and no cheese on top)
Basicly common sence.
Pounds will go
ps if you "filled" 2 Gatorade bottles,it also mean you drank those?
If so.............not so good.Horizon Rider Thanks this. -
Gatorade = high in salts. Bad for you. It's meant for one purpose only. To replenish electrolytes lost in heavy sweating from exercising. It destroys your water balance. Your body has to compensate to maintain homeostasis. The extra salt in Gatorade gets into your system, causing a hypertonic reaction. Water inside your cells diffuses out and into interstitial tissues. This results in low water in the cells where it's more needed, high water in tissues which can cause swelling. The body increases urination in order to try to get rid of the sodium and excess water in tissues and maintain balance. Bam. Just like that, Gatorade has DEhydrated you.
And if your wondering my credentials to whether I know this stuff for real, I'm an NC Paramedic.
DRINK WATER!
Don't starve yourself. Your body needs that food. Eat lots of veggies and fruit, plenty of whole grains. Eat a good amount of protein, but not too much. Protein high diets increase bowel movements and can make your uncomfortably gassy.
For leg swelling, your sodium levels contribute to that worsening. Try a pair of compression socks. It'll help. If you don't mind me asking, what's your weight? Often, being significantly overweight leads to diabetes and circulatory issues. I'm sure you've heard of diabetics losing feet. There's several reasons for it, but much if it is circulation.
Cells that get low blood/oxygen GI to anerobuc respiration which produces lactic acid. This causes significant swelling and soreness.
In diabetics, their bodies are often high in acidity. Poor circulation causes this acidity to be trapped in the feet. I'm sure you can understand why acid is bad on your body.Last edited: Jun 7, 2012

You can lose weight by cutting your portions and eating a balanced diet. It isn't good to starve yourself. Cut down on the carbs. Basically, anything white is usually a carb. I would stay away from the buffet's, but if you do eat at them, only fill your plate once. Drink plenty of water. In fact, rather than drinking carbonated drinks or tea with meals, drink water. Water will aid your digestion and help to flush your system. It is better than anything artificial. Rather than Gatorade, try Powerade, if you want something to replace electrolytes. It has less salt. Water is still the best thing you can drink.

Gatorade is high in sugar same as soda which is bad stop drinking gatorade or you'll never lose weight try and drink water only and that guy that said bread should stick with driving cause that's one of the worst things you can eat you want to stick with a high protein low Carbs diet meaning skinless chicken, fish, egg whites, nuts, etc and don't forget your fruits and veggies for salads use vingerette for a dressing hope this helps.

Your meals each day will have all he necessary salt. In fact, food is OVER salted these days. You shouldn't really drink any or the -ades unless you're extremely active and sweating a LOT.

One more thing is try and split your meals up into 5 smaller portions instead of 3 large ones and also never eat a lot before you go to bed again bad.

Also avoid aspartame. It breaks down into aspartic acid. This stuff is really not good for your body. It has also been proven to not prevent the onset of diabetes any better than regular sugar.

im just under 300, but I had been quite active at my former job ,walking between 5-9 miles a day over 10-12 hour shifts plus a lot of lifting .I rarely drink soda except when I need the caffeine ,I had been doing the Gatorade to avoid drinking soda ,so i guess that leaves me with just water as I don't do coffee or tea .Though I would prefer something with more taste than water . I usually only eat one big meal on the road ,then snack rest of the day ,and unfortunately I am a jerky junkie . I will look into the compression socks ,and am thinking of getting some of the resistance bands to excersise my legs ,and once i go solo bring some adjustable weights and I've seen the small bike pedal set without the full bike for cardio . Any idea what the compression socks run ?

30 to 70 dollars online. Go to google and do compression socks. Some Walgreens have them I have heard.
