Ok I own a Auto Transport Company. Right now Its two Duallys with Two Trailers, I drive one, my dad the other. We want to put drivers in the truck and have them start running farther. My question is Im used to pay more the mile. For instance if I run to St Louis, its a average of 200 a car. So lets say I have 4 Cars, thats 800.00 After Fuel it would be 600.00 Profit. I was told by a few that they then split that 3 ways, 200.00 For me, 200.00 for driver and 200 for insurance/maintenance. Is this right? I have never worked with 30 day pay companies but will probably start doing that too to fill the loads. Is this the way to go? I dont really follow the per mile pay. Since most of the companies just pay a certian price. Thanks Also any tips on hiring a driver?

Percentage of your rate without fuel surcharge is fair.
27% is a fair rate.
On your example that's 216$.
The driver should get that same percentage of stop off and detention pay.
And the driver should be paid weekly or bi-weekly no matter how often your getting paid.AJPTransport and MJ1657 Thank this. -
What do you mean by The driver should get that same percentage of stop off and detention pay.

If your getting 100$ an hour to sit, he should get 27$ an hour...
If you get 75$ a stop he should get 19. -
I got ya. Cool.

Pay him better than you'd pay yourself, keep him happy. Some people expect you to run on nothing but he should make 45-65K/yr and run 500-700 miles a day depending where he is. Get him home time.
Solid person, can be single or married, good credit and 4 people from his area who will recommend him, no accidents, 1 ticket would be my maximum. Must be clean, can have beard, non smoker. Provide him with coveralls and gloves and make him get your truck washed.Logan76 Thanks this. -
One thing to remember; very few drivers will work as hard as you to make a paycheck, because they don't own the truck.
