I was talking about the ones who leave part of the trailer in the road. Like they tried to wedge in but just couldn’t do it.
Taking your 10hr break on the shoulder, the best you can do?

I remember back in the 80’s trucks parked on the entrance and exit ramps of pickle parks. The ones parked after was because the truck parking was full when they drove in. The ones parked before is because the place is stuffed and you can’t get in. As the night goes by and hands would leave the ones parked on the ramps looked like they had no since. But back then everyone understood what happens and why it happens.

There’s a few ramps around Atlanta that have HUGE shoulders ,
But I ain’t gonna post em in a public forum
there’s a couple that were widened and improved for staging of construction equipment, gravel and everything
it’s slowing becoming a popular spot for
The locals to park

That stretch of interstate about 50 miles either side of Raphine has been a parking disaster for at least 40 years. It's a black hole for parking. do not enter this stretch unless you can get out the other side without needing to shutdown; you will NEVER find a space after dark. That's the way it was back in 1988!!!
As for taking a break on the shoulder, the only place I ever did that was on the PA Turnpike, where there is a HUUGE turn-off on Ray's Hill that used to take you to the since-closed tunnels. Back in the late 80's, the tunnel had only been shut down for a decade, so the pavement was still there, and you could be still on "shoulder" and be 500' away from the traffic. Dozens of drivers used this, and the State Troopers did not care. Not sure how that part is today; I haven't been there in 25 years...navypoppop Thanks this. -
When I deliver in NYC I park in New Jersey and drive over first thing in the morning. Experience has taught me the rest areas are full 24 hours a day by locals. Some of my customers also have onsite parking.
I would do an off duty drive before I would park on the shoulder. I’m loaded with watermelons, currently and deliver at midnight in Harrisburg, PA. It’s likely I’ll be there till morning but if I not I know a lot of drivers park at 4 or 5 pm. I’m confident come 3-4am there will be an open spot for me. If it makes me arrogant for not parking on off ramps, so be it.
