I agree with you there-i dont care what the outside looks like as long as inside is clean. Heck i been even running mine with stuff not working--it got me 3200 miles last week-im not complaining-would be nice to use cruise control again when they get it fixed. :yes2557:

I drove for over 2 years with no cruise control. It's not necessary, so I never went into the shop for it. I also had no AC for over a year. I drive with all kinds of stuff broken. If it's not urgent, safety related, or DOT, it's not gonna get fixed on my watch. Not when it takes the shop 3 days just to look at a truck:biggrin_25513:

I never keep a truck for very long anymore anyway- not since they started getting fussy about their take-more-than-3-days-off-ya-gotta-turn-in-the-truck rule. I just keep myself portable now, and don't put much effort into any truck cause I won't be keeping it for long.

I need an end cap on my truck..after being backed into the other day. lol No accident kit on truck so I took a couple pics with my camera....anyway i was gonna be in dallas the next day and DM says to take it by the terminal and get it fixed. Ok...whatever...I go thru the quick lane and I know shop dude wasn't interested in working on it...So I ask that if it can't be worked on today then maybe just take a pic so that they know I at least had it looked at...he says "sure let me get the camera"...lol he looks all over and searches wherever and comes back and says "man I can't find the camera"...lol...I'll see about getting it fixed some other day.

Well you may drive whatever they give you but I am not going to give up a two year old truck that with a new qualcomm and everything works for a truck that if DOT came in to Lancater that truck would be tagged.

Drivers and I mean drivers not students will go to a OTR company and they look at:::

    Equipment
    Pay
    Hometime

Notice how Equipment is on top above pay? Most professional OTR drivers want a comfortable, nice looking Rig to roll down the road. Not something that looks like it is parked out at the CDL schools waiting for the next student to abuse.

I spend 4 to 6 weeks out here and what you drive is who you are out here!!! I only spend at most two days at home if that so I got to look good when I am cruising teh highways.. Well you can only look so good in a Volvo.:biggrin_2556: I prefer a Pete..... If you look at a truck as a tool then more power to ya but I look at it as my home and and I will be ###### if I give up a diamond for a rock... My tools are in my side bin! My belongings are in my home sweet home!

But all is well was not strong armed into leasing a truck so they could not take it from me when it is in shop status..... Oh lord you went one year without AC? #### I bet you had to wash your sheets everyday! You are one tuff driver!! My AC goes out it is in the next shop! I can drive local without AC for awhile cause I can always take a shower when I get home but OTR? Your not guaranteed a shower daily!!

    BB,

If they want to give you a 07 Volvo, accept as it might lead to a brand new truck down the road. That truck is already four years old and is due for trade in soon. I would have been happy as heck. I understand where you are coming from but older trucks usually run better. Yes you spent some money to make the '10 look nice but I would rather be running than sitting. Just my .02 opinion. In conclusion; Swift owns the truck and can put you in whatever truck you desire. Not to be harsh but it is the truth.

    At Free spirit,

You could not have said it better. Many drivers will not run without a/c nor cruise. Like you, I could give .02 less as I need to be making money.

Oh boy must be the new breed of drivers that seem to be taking over the trucking world. I know it's Swift's truck! But do they advertise that they slip seat their trucks to get drivers to choose Swift? No ! Do they tell you you will lose your truck when it goes into shop status? NO/ Do they tell you you will lose your truck if you take more than three days at home? NO/ They don't tell you any of this when you talk to them. Most drivers don't like to lose a truck once they get use to it and get comfortable in it.

You ever wonder why most drivers would refuse to drive a truck with no AC OTR for long periods of time? Because they are smart drivers!!! Your a safety hazard the first time you are in Laredo and it's 100 degrees outside and 120 in your truck and you have to sleep so you can drive another 11 when you wake up.

Don't try to use the I plan my trips so I don't sleep during the day because then you must be turning down loads because we all at some point have to pull a all niter and sleep during the day.

Cruise control you could careless? Well lets compare my fuel mileage using the cruise control to yours and you getting fatigued during the day while you keep that foot on the pedal for 11 hours.

These things may seem nothing to you but to me and many other drivers they help prevent fatigue and therefor we are much safer and alert during our trip. A professional truck driver is also a smart driver and does not always care about just I'm making money! Money will not help you the first time you kill someone when you explain to DOT that you could not sleep last night because it was too hot in your truck.

A steering wheel holder will always put money first

A professional driver knows his truck and takes pride in it because it is always clean and well taken care of whether it's the companies or his. Well at least that is the way it use to be the last time I drove OTR.

as long as somebody's willing to drive a crap truck, then the company's gonna keep crap trucks. same goes for driver pay. we all get sold short when someone is willing to do the work cheaper.
