My first year with Stevens Transport was a good experience. No real crazy war stories here. Just typical bs from time to time with a mega. I made some minor mistakes, learned a lot, a few serious pucker factor moments, but all in all, good year.

Only advice I got is stick it out with first company, and have a good attitude. Work hard, do your job, and stay out of the bs.

I would say almost exactly the same thing, Only I worked for a different company.

I definitely learned to keep an open mind and not sweat the small stuff. If you listen to the cb or the drivers sitting at the truck stop buffet, you will here A LOT of complaining. About everything under the sun. As long as you don't fall into that negative nancy mindset you should be fine!

I'm still in my first year but I only worked at that job four months. Learned to back pretty well though. We went into a lot of crazy places trucks aren't really meant to go and would have to back like 50 times a day. Being a route driver is no joke depending where you go.

My 1st year you probably don't want to hear about. I clawed my way into some great opportunities and I built a nice reputation for myself on AOGs, HVLs, DoDs and Canadian runs, but it was all blown to #### by the owner fighting with the carrier. I tried to hire on with other owners, but each required I team drive. After having lived in a truck with a parade of three codrivers who were scraped from the bottom of the humanity dumpster, I did not want another one. o_O I ended my first year running all the fuel out of the truck in an unauthorized move back the the terminal before spending the rest of my checking account on an Uber and an Amtrak ride home. I hadn't been paid in over a month. The owner went on to torpedo himself with two more carriers since then.

I like where I am now. There were some bumps along the way. Don't ever get hurt.

I guess my first year helped me figure out what's important to expect from an owner and carrier. Keep the truck fixed. Pay on time. Don't reprimand me over stuff I can't control, like weather and stopped traffic. Don't play Dispatch games. Leave the route planning to me (especially in Winter). Send me all the Canada you have. Toss in the occasional West and Southwest sun run and I'm fine.
