Personally I wouldn't worry bout it. Just take a bottle of ibuprofen every day for the headaches and enjoy the ride.

The beast is un tameable. It'll take a few months before you both get along.

I actually wrote a post on surge once upon a time... let me see if I can find it! Although a couple of these guys already nailed down the basics.

One thing that has worked for me on steep hills. If I know it will require ultimately dropping down to 6th or 7th at 1500 rpm and 25mph or so, I enter the hill at speed and as I start slowing pull it out of 10th gear. As I am slowing, when I get close to 25mph I bring my rpm's up to 1500 and it slides right in gear. By the time it goes in gear, the fluid is at the rear already and I am at the right speed/gear/rpm to climb the hill. Only 1 smooth downshift.

Hey guys. Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond.

First of all, thanks for all your input! Mucho gracias

Having focused on it thoroughly these last few days I think it really just comes down to smoothness of shift/accel transitions, and patience when accelerating.

I have zero problems with braking surge because I heel/toe downshift with constant application of brake pressure.

My biggest struggle is learning how to be smooth with steep uphill starts or when lugging and trying to grab a gear quickly.

Which leads me to another question... what’s the de facto quickest way to shift? I don’t seem to notice much difference between float out/in, clutch out/float in, or double clutching. Especially on uphill downshifts?

Anyways thanks again for all your inputs!
