hey all. Currently in my first week of solo driving and i have been getting really really lucky finding easy spots to park in at night. The other night though i had to drop a trailer at our yard and i had a HELL of a time because the trailers are so close together.i was always told if you have to make tight backing maneuvers to put tandem s all the way forward.. so i did make my back and goal'd.... i was an 1/8 inch from hitting the trailer on my blind side! . Messed with it for what seemed like forever and moved my tandems back to where they had been or maybe even further.... got it in no problem.. with them alllll the way forward i had waaay too much overhang, by the time my tankers were at the pivot point the trailer was allready almost touching the other one... lets just say if it had mirrors they'd be gone....i still get extremely nervous alley docking at the crowded stops.... am i better off moving my tandems back before i park at night so i have a better idea of where my blind side is?.... confused and a bit nervous....i know my luck finding pull throughs can't last.. your thoughts are greatly appreciated ... PS. Sorry for lack of paragraphs and spacing, this was posted from a " smart" phone
Tandem positioning and backing?

Replace the word " tankers " with tandems.... this phone has a mind of its own.

A little advice if you don't think you can get it in stop and get some one to spot you if there is a yard jockey ask him to put in in if all else fails just drop it someone else will come along and fix it never take the accident

I had originally posted this question on another forum but that forum doesn't seem to get much traffic and my post was hijacked like many of the other posts, figured I'd move on over too here. I'm now in my third week and so far so good.i just start early to park early and stay away from the pilots lol ( downtown Denver.... what a nightmare pilot) but i am still concerned about backing with my tandems way up...i like them up for city driving but that overhang in TSs scares me.... hell i pulled into a loves and saw the truck on my blind side had a driver in it so i key'd the mic and asked him if he could do me a favor and just watch my swing..... he reached up to his radio..... and turned it off... what a d###. I think some drivers ENJOY watching rookies struggle :/

.you really don't want to be moving tandem on loaded trailers so you can park at nite, if it helps stop a little earlier get an easy pull thru spot and leave a little earlier in the morn.
Stay safe out there -
Relax dude sounds like you figured it out on your own. Seems like you want to create extra work for yourself. You tried with them ahead and seen the results.

Actually you're better off going elsewhere with better parking, lol.Or try and get there before 6 or 7 pm I still won't park in a busy trk stop and especially at night when im tired.

^^ yeah i hear ya there... i can get a bit tensed up If i make a bad back I'll run it over in my head for way to long thinking about what i should have done or where i went wrong.i know i got to stop that crap and roll with the moment. But i know I'll end up back in Cali some day and have to hit a TS hole with em up i spose if I've got the room i can square my trailer before i shoot the hole.
