    I prefer the tandems to be as far back as possible. Much easier to position into a tight spot without having to worry about that tail swing. I usually keep them with the 40' mark between the tandems and most of the time I never have to slide them when I scale out.

    You do it to get into tight spots. Many docks were built with much shorter trailers in mind. A 53' trailer just does not fit in many spots. They grew slowly over the years. From straight trucks to 26' to 40' to 48' to finally 53'.

    I have been to several manufacturing plants and warehouses that you literally had to back into with your nose canted just to fit. You literally could not be straight out and hit the dock.

    Many truckers that do mainly highway driving just do not see all of the places that want you to pick up and deliver freight. Dispatchers know to never send you there so they just run a city driver over to get the load and drop it for you in the yard.
