So I'm new to the game, and recently I started hauling intermodal containers. The question I ask is, are there any tips and tricks when hauling tank containers????

I can't specifically help you with that but I can tell you to make sure you take it slower around curves, on ramps, off ramps etc...and make sure all your pins are locked.

Iso-containers will sure enough teach you to be a smooth shifter! Because of the fairly large bore and no baffles, they are one of the worst about surge. You'll learn to stay out of the throttle until you're up into the high side of the transmission or it'll make you look like you can't shift when the surge gets to rockin' an' rollin'.

You will find that going uphill loaded is tricky in shifting--you gotta be faster. Double-clutching worked better for me than floating. It seemed I missed gears less often using doubling....but that was me.

Don't use the jake unless you really need it. It messes you up on shifting and induces slosh too easily.

Don't do anything fast as far as steering goes. Don't swerve hard to avoid animals. If someone cuts you off and stops suddenly...well....you decide whether it's better to capsize or rear-end some idiot. ;-)

Depending on the specific gravity of your fluid you could get slammed surprisingly hard with the slosh from poor shifting. I have back problems from the slosh! LoL! Try to be smooth and learn those speeds and RPM's well.

Slow on the turns is the most important. Subtract 5 or even 10 mph from the yellow speed signs on curves.

Stay calm and confident. You can react faster when calm and your decision making process is better. Be cool even when things are hot and dicey. Practice in your head staying cool while imagining something intense. That type of visualization can actually help....I swear !

    Safe travels brother !

I agree with what quatto said. When you shift be gentle on the throttle, when you feel the surge go to ghe rear is when you can give it more, works for me atleast.
