Guys, I need a little advice. Im starting a specialty chemical tanker service. The loads I will be hauling are ALL under 2500 gallons. I have 117 loads contracted for the next year. Having family that owns the blending plant that ships the material helped!
Im stuck on what kind of rig to purchase. I had freightliner of Tulsa work me up a quote on a straight truck with a 2500 gal SS-304 tank, a used tri axle Sterling with 490hp Cat and eaton 10 speed. Rough estimate is just under $110k.
The other option is a day cab truck and 6500 gal SS-304 Tanker trailer for $100k. (so many options available in this range that i wont list the details of the cabs)
ALL of my loads will be 2200-2300 gallons of hazmat liquid.
Im stuck on what the best option would be. I wont be the driver, as I cant give up my other job to do this. Im just the investor right now. I dont have a CDL nor have I ever driven a tanker or tanktruck.
In your opinions, which is the best option? Ive heard that the truck/trailer option is going to be a lot of wear and tear on the driveline because its such a heavy product but not a lot of volume to keep the tank for surging and sloshing. Whereas a tanker on a straight truck will be completely full.
What about the associated costs of running the truck? Would a straight truck and a truck/trailer have similar expenses?
ANY opinions are much appreciated. Thanks again.
