There were signs along Van Horn street in Fairbanks, offering $35 an hour last year, hauling fuel.
Sourdough has a mix of new and older trucks,I would give each company a call, check the current pay.
There's also local 959 in Fairbanks, they are always looking for drivers.

Sorry to ask so many questions. Is housing easy to get? Is it regular full time, work every week. Or 3 weeks on 3 weeks off?
-
Slope jobs are usaully rotational, but if working in Fairbanks probably need your own housing,I lived in Midtown apartments for a few years, there are dry cabins all around for rent. There are laundromats around where you can wash clothes and shower, some of the dry cabins for rent also have laundry and shower buildings.

As you get over a certain threshold, the cost per truck go down. So while the over all bill is big, the per unit costs goes down.RockinChair Thanks this.

I'm a mid roof and need to be careful in some places. My company requires me to have a stack (no grass burner exhaust) so I don't overheat the pump if offloading flammable. My stack was 4" over my midroof, and I almost hit a loading rack catwalk loading in Bayonne, NJ.
Spotter whoa'ed me down and I didn't hit it.
Chopped off that stack next time I got home. I was 12'8", now I'm 12'4".
Also, never drive under a loading rack without a spotter.trucker-chase and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
On the slope, we’re on a rotation schedule full time January- December. Some companies have seasonal jobs too. I know guys who only comes up during the winter and take summers off. I been here for a couple years now.
We stay in man camps which is free, no charge. We have most amenities that you have at home ie: gym, movie theater, dinner hall, etc. No pool though.
We work 12hr shifts minimum; I been pulling 14-16hr shifts everyday. Weekends and holidays is all OT pay at 1.5x. I been grossing $3500/week on average. Some weeks it’s $4200. The max you can stay up here is 6 weeks before you need to fly off the slope for some time off. I usually do 6 weeks on, fly down to Anchorage, stay in a hotel for couple days and fly back up for another 6 weeks during the winter months.
Now the only downside is if you live in the lower 48, you need to cover your own flights to and from anchorage. Depending on the time of the year and your location ticket prices can vary. I usually spend $500-$600 round trip on average. The most I ever spent was $1300 round trip for main cabin.Last edited: Oct 24, 2025

Thanks for the info.
How long is season?
14 to 16 hours a day sounds brutal. Once a week. Ok. Maybe if you don't have a commute, so you start-stop right away. You working 7 days a week? I'm guessing 6. -
Oilfield isn’t for the weak, lot of guys don’t want to work more than 8hrs-10hrs so they never come work in the oilfield. We work 7 days a week through our whole hitch whether it’s 3 weeks on or 6 weeks on. Up until we go home no days off. My daily commute is 5 minutes down the road to the yard from camp. Lol
Winter season is October-March/AprilRockinChair and 77fib77 Thank this. -
Got any more?

Are you familiar with how running the haul road works? I'd rather stay in a truck and keep rolling so I've been looking at jobs running fairbanks to deadhorse if that's possible. Any companies that are shady or should be avoided around those parts?
