Hey guys,
I have an interview for a position, “Tanker Driver”, that requires Tanker endorsement. It’s for a logging company in Northern California.
I’m wondering if anyone here has experience - what can I expect in this kind of job? Mostly hauling water, and maybe some chemicals? Lots of dirt roads? How many stops in a day, when does the day typically start and end?
I got my tanker endorsement in 2015, along with my CDL, but I’ve only ever done a few loads (OTR) with a tanker trailer.
Tanker driver for a logging company?

A lot of large construction companies or loggers have their own 6 or 10 wheel fuel tanker and you drive around their sites and fill up all the machines.....
Not sure if this is what they are looking for .
Or it’s a water truck to keep dust down on haul roads.....or for compaction when building haul roads.....G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
@REO6205 @okiedokie @Rugerfan are or were involved with logging I believe.
I tagged them so hopefully they'll respond.88 Alpha, G13Tomcat, okiedokie and 1 other person Thank this. -
My guess would be either water truck driver keeping haul road dust down and maybe fuel truck for equipment maybe. Water truck will start a couple hours before everyone else and you’ll always be the bad guy. Road will be too wet or not wet enough.

Are you sure you'll be a good fit for this job? Crack of dawn so to speak till late afternoon that just the start of it. You WILL be a top hand, driver. There's alot to know. Just a quick tip do not over water the corners or beaver slides! It's called dust control. And for god sake stay away from the outside/soft shoulders. 99% of time loaded have the right away. Ok I could go on but those loggers will get you lined out right fast. Good luck you'll love the woods.

Sounds like an awesome job, scenery-wise, however, be advised, I doubt it's running down a 6 lane interstate except to maybe get the fuel. I'm sure it's fuel tanker for their machines, they probably go through a lot of fuel or to the jobsite, which could involve some tricky driving. Could be tense.

Having rode in a truck on an open highway and out logging in the bush, I'd pick the bush over pavement. Way more challenging from what I've seen.
not4hire Thanks this.
