Hello all,
I am looking into going to local community college to get cdl. 4 week school. Is it harder to get placed through community college as opposed to cdl mill? Also, what is the most difficult part of driving tanker? Can anyone give me their opinion on good tanker companies? i live in central Ohio near I-71/I-70. THANKS!!

Community college is best option. Tanker work is easy money; less work/more pay. More pay becaue you don't sit waiting for loads. Average 1 hour to load/unload then you're rolling down the highway again. Here's some tanker companies that hire new CDL grads:
Schneider tanker division
Superior-Carriers
SVTN
You will need TWIC and good idea to get a passport. -
I went to a community college for my CDL. Getting job offers was no problem. Of course, I did my own research of companies & applied to them myself, rather than relying on "placement" with/by the school. While I didn't go tanker right out of school (did flatbed for the first 6 months), I did have an offer from Schneider's tanker division. I'm driving tankers now & enjoying the work.

I went to clark state community college .. usually the college will have recruiters from the big trucking companies coming in to talk to you

i went with Schneider bulk/tanker as a new driver, you shouldn't have any prob getting on with them in the c-bus area if you want to (I parked a little further north on I71).
Not sure if other tanker companies will hire new drivers in your area. Schneider is a great way to get some good exp with tanker and you'll make decent money if you hang in there and do it right. You'll get hazmat exp, some driving exp in the northeast and exp with all kinds of shippers and receivers, large and small. And you'll learn a lot about unloading tankers.
hardest part about tankers is probably just being out in hot and cold weather unloading. Not so terrible, but I would say that's the hardest part if I had to pick something.
i dont mean to sound like im pushing Schneider , but they're one of the few that will take new drivers and I'm just sharing my exp with them .
good luck!Trakehner Thanks this. -
will need HAMAT 2

Thought about tankers also. Some posts say that there are a lot of deliveries made to places where getting the truck in to unload is a real problem. BS or the truth? What percentage would fall into that category?
