    Hi Friends,

I am preparing for my CDL school and looking at all areas of trucking.
I'm looking at Tanker Hauling...and was "Hoping" some of the "experienced Tanker Drivers" can give their input.

    1. How do you break into Tanker Hauling?
    2. What are the Pros and Cons of Tanker Hauling?
    3. How's the $ in Tankers?
    4. Local Driving (how tough is it to get a Local Job)?

Thanks for any constructive input you can give...

Find some Chinatown posts and you'll find lots of info addressing your
    questions, especially for Florida.

Tanking is the best type of trucking in my opinion. But I'll also add, go read Chinatowns post, he is the most knowledgeable member on here.

I run probably 70% LTL but the rest of the time I run tanker. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't, it all depends. I run local so that may mean multiple tankers a day and it gets old hooking and unhooking hoses all day plus we usually will help our guys load as well. We essentially only haul Hazmat and while flammables aren't so bad, corrosives suck big time, especially in the Summer. I can't give you any details on OTR so listen to the other guys, if you have local questions than feel free to ask.

Depends on what kind of tanker hauling you're interested in. Food grade or chemical, OTR or regional. You've also got the area of fuel hauling which is a very good number depending on where you live.,
But you will make more $$ with chemicals. I've done all three mentioned here and you can't go wrong with chemical or fuel. Primarily you're going to make more $$ with hazmat.
When driving a tanker, you just have to used to the surge of the liquid, but in time you will conquer that.
    Good luck.
