A lot of tanker customers have VERY old facilites and it's common for those facilities to have low clearance issues which prevent anything taller than mid-roof trucks. I've seen some onwer-operator tractors with what MIGHT be a double-bunk truck, but I don't recall seeing any company trucks from fleets with anything taller than mid-roof trucks.

Also, some of the HazMat customers are really strict about security. SOME, not many, HazMat customers I go to even have signs posted that say team drivers must stay inside the guard shack or some other designated area outside the property while the needed driver unloads the product. I don't know if this is due to security concerns or liability concerns. If the plant has an emergency they must account for every body almost instantly. First Responders are not fond of wasting time combing through rubble looking for more people than necessary. Food-grade tankers may be a lot less strict about extra people and they may be much newer than some HazMat customers. Many customers I go to their property looks like it was built in the 1920s or the 1950s, or they were built 2 years ago. NIMBY means customers are stuck where they are built or they have to build 2 zipcodes away from where anyone sleeps in a home.

with all that you said, let's not forget, since 9/11 most MAJOR chemical companies don't want ANY passengers inside. Federal Thing. Some places they require a TWIC card, NO TWIC, you can't even get in!
