Back at ya !!!
Where were u stationed -
Don't forget these:
-45' (or so) trailers...no more 53's
-no more sliding tandems
-most states don't mess with you on axle weights (Virginia will get a hair across their arse now and then and make you sit an let it settle, but they have pre-pass)
-no groc warehouses
-most loads p/u and del during the daytime. not a whole lot of the 2am apt time crap. (unless you do local work then that is usually shift work anyway)
-customers know you are coming.
-customers know they get hit with demurge for you being there after a couple hours..thus in their best interest to get you in and out as quick as possible.
-generally (and this will probably offend some people, but too bad) you deal with a more professional type driver. (the tank top, shorts, flip flops and 5 day growth are not going to cut it at a chem plant. you will be told to leave. many places are very strict on ANY facial hair)
-in my opinion, you get treated with more respect from shippers and recievers. (possibly due to previous reason). -
Oh no!!!!! I'd have to cut my beard off? How bout the mustache and long hair? Guess cutting the beard wouldn't be to bad, most of its white or grey by now.

i have to call bs on the middle of the night quote, thats all i did for superior was middle of the night crap and i ran the system. any time you got near markham or the kankakee idiots your gonna get what the markham good ole boys didn't want to do. kankakee sucks and the people in the office suck roids.

Ditto,
I believe the FDA doesn't allow baffles in food tankers because it's harder to clean baffled tanks vs smooth bore. Now with that said, is fuel tankers the only tankers with baffles? -
It's bs because you had to do some middle of the night stuff? I run the system (or over the road, what ever you want to call it) and can't think of any times in the last 10 years i have had to p/u or del in the overnight hrs. I don't do any pick ups, deliveries or driving after about 9pm and won't start earlier then 5am. I just tell them I don't feel safe getting up and driving at 2-3 in the morning. (those times are based on Texas time also, if I happen to be out west and get up at5 or so yes it is 3 pacific time but my body and clock is on central time) It has worked for me for the 11+ years I have been with Schneider, so I don't see any need to change now. I like to keep on a semi normal sleep schedule. (plus that another benefit of e-logs, if I just wait till 7-8pm till I do my post trip and go off duty or sleeper they cant push me to do any thing till 5 or 6 the next morn.). You just have to grow some coconuts to say no, and realize you might be leaving a little money on the table. Me, I'll pass up on a little cash to get a good nights sleep. Falling asleep at the wheel and killing myself or somebody else not in my plans. -
Beard would have to go away, refineries and most of your major chem plants wont let you in. Mustache, as long as its not the ##-man-chu type and stops at the corner of the mouth, should be fine. (though I have been starting to see some places that say no facial hair period). Reason being is you have to be able to get a seal on respirator. Long hair shouldn't be a problem, except it will be hot with all the safety gear on in the summer. -
I haul inedible and we dont have any baffles either for the same reason mentioned before. Hard to clean. I just started doing this almost a month ago and still getting used to the job but you are right on being on the move constantly. Every minute counts.
