It would be hard for you to run tanker with your own authority. Not impossible, but hard. Tank trailers are expensive and you will sometimes need a belly dump, others a rear unload. Not to mention specialty trailers. O/Os I have known in tank were all leased to a carrier.
Travelworld2067 Thanks this. -
I’ve been a tanker driver for 24 years driving fuel tankers one and a half years ago I bought a truck and leased to a carrier still hauling gas and now I’m one month into having my own authority with my own trailers setting my own rates and invoicing my customers everyday after dinner hopefully in about a year from now I’ll have one or two owner ops leased to me pulling my trailers
If you know anything about flatbeds stick to flatbeds the insurance is a fraction of what I pay the trailers are dirt cheap load availability is mind boggling and one day to the next would be extremely diverseKeithdabarber, Brettj3876 and Travelworld2067 Thank this. -
Very few ppl with their own authority running tanks (liquid) dry bulk on the other hand has an abundance of tanks from the oil boom running frac sand so rates aren't the best for dry bulk.
Imo flatbed is the better option unless your in a niche market -
