But many tanker loads are dedicated and Surgeio just gets a one way ticket .

That is true! What I'm looking at doing would be dragging an empty from my home terminal to another terminal, dropping that one picking up a loaded one and going out to deliver. When I get empty I either run back to the home terminal or back to the terminal I got the loaded trailer from and picking up another loaded trailer. I reckon I could deal with that!

    To the original poster,

I realize this is an older thread but I was just wondering how things turned out for you. Did you find a tanker position?

I have been hauling tanks for 3 years. After I came out of CDL school I started pulling tanks. It's all I have done since I have been driving.

    Keep us posted,

    Dave

Right now schneider just got some big tanker contracts, ive considered it but Im still not sure if I want to switch to something that is considerably more unpredictable to drive as far as load shifting on on/off ramps, emergency stops and so on. I like having a trailer that I know I can throw it in if I have to and it will stay vertical if some iddiot turns in front me or I misjudge a corner

I've been pulling a tank for a month now and all I can tell you is it's really not as scary as everyone tells it. Now don't get me wrong, the first week your butt will be sore from puckering all the time but by week 3 you'll have a good handle on it and you'll feel more comfortable with a liquid load behind you. Just my .02 as a new tanker yanker.

It depends on the sort of tanker you drive and the product you haul. Baffled or compartmentalized trailers don't ride to bad at all especially with a light product. A smooth bore trailer with a thin but dense product like un32 rides terrible no matter how smooth you drive it.

True but even the worst products settle down on the highway at cruising speeds. I find myself driving extra miles to avoid stoplights loaded. One stoplight is worth 5 miles of freeway to me with a smooth bore tank and jumpy product.

Kentucky24, who do you drive for, I'm in St. Louis and thinking about trying tankers, van and otr will not open up (now 8/6) in time to save me from the exit ramp??? It looks like tankers may be steadier???
