Tankers: How much did you make your first year of tankers?

Also, have you driven anything besides tankers? Would you say there is a significantly higher difficultly curve to learning tankers?

My first year made $65K and so did 2 new CDL grads at the same company. The learning curve isn't difficult at all; mainly just slow down on curves and entry/exit ramps on interstates. All tanker companies will teach you the intricacies of tanker work during orientation, so don't overthink it.

I have done van, reefer, flatbed, and tanker is the best in all respects.

Made 45k first year at SNBC (new grad) averaging 1800 miles a week. Good training program.
Now with another carrier and expect 60k+.

I made $54,000. Had to take some time off too so would have been over $60,000 if I'd run all year. Just take everything a little slower, no sudden change in direction. And when unloading, if something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Stop and make sure everything is a go before you open that last valve.

I made 57,000 my first full year. Over $65k the last 2. For a new guy who's never done anything related to trucking or been around chemicals it can be a lot to take in.

If you're reasonably intelligent and willing to learn it's not a big deal. Any company worth working for isn't going to cut you loose until both them and you are confident you're ready.

I've made $70k+ the past 4 years pulling a vacuum tanker and home every night 95% of the time. If you have any common sense and the will to work some, specialized tanker work is the way to go. Takes time for some to learn the trade but once you do, no one can take it from you!!

Do you haul straight truck or combo? Russell Reid is always hiring in my area and I was wondering if that'd be a good switch. I just can't figure why they're always looking for drivers.

I'm hoping to land a job at quality carriers once I get home this week.
I used to operate a 2200 gallon tmc vacuum tank recycling fry oil.
How much difference is it in little tanks to big tanks?
