Tankers the Schneider way

I am. My net for every two weeks is around $2300.00. I made 86k+ last year gross. All that with a Monday thru Friday work week and home every night pulling tankers.

 

Hello all. Recent Reserve, LA graduate here. Heading up to Atlanta Tuesday to get my truck and start OTR. So far I am really liking the Schneider Bulk community. Haven't read every post on this thread yet, but I'll have time soon enough. I guess I was so involved with learning the offload processes that it never occurred to me to ask this question...how do you clear the lines if it's a major leak so you can make the repairs? Anybody have any first hand experience, and/or suggestions? Obviously close the valves, prevent product spread, smile and dial etc. etc..

Second issue i'm trying to figure out, the best solution for cold food storage. I had planned on bringing some frozen home made meals with me, but not sure if that can happen. Was told that we can only have a 250 watt transformer in the truck ( which I don't even think will power my CPAP machine). Looked at the plug in coolers...with the current temps across the US, pretty sure that a package of lunch meat wont survive any more than a couple days with the no idle policy (if you're wanting the bonus any way). Although tasty, the food in Dallas was just a little lacking as far as variety, maybe? Don't want to live off truck stop food or Sub-way all the time. Also thought about getting a small generator and run everything off it, as needed. But, where to put it in/on the truck while driving and where/how to secure it while sleeping at rest areas/truck stops. I guess I'll figure it out when I get on the road, lol.

 

Can't answer your first questions as I am not driving yet. Here's what I am thinking and planning for myself once I am a driver:

Yep, they cost a few bucks but I feel that having one would be worth it, especially over the course of a few years. My plan is to make crock pot roasts/spaghetti/chili,... and freeze meals in say quart sized zip lock bags in one of these larger freezers placed at the bottom of the bunk. Shoot, the largest one of these freezers holds equivalent of 144 coke cans. You could fill this thing up with enough frozen food to last you for weeks out on the road. And you could buy bags of frozen strawberries, mango, blueberries,... and have good breakfasts too. Then, the night before you're ready to consume..., thaw one baggie and a couple hours before I'm ready to eat lunch or dinner, as I'm driving, heat the contents in a lunch box cooker, also plugged into a cigarette lighter. Lots of money could be saved this way and you wouldn't take in the preservatives/sodium from doing the same with tv dinners.

As far as having a generator, I have a 2000 watt Yamaha Inverter generator. I didn't know that Schneider Bulk had a no idle policy. If that's changed now (to get a bonus), my plan may be to take my generator as well. Is there room to store it under your bunk? As far as operating it outside without the fear of losing it, possibly buy yourself a heavy "carrier chain" from Lowes or Home Depot. I bought an 8 foot length of 6000 lb carrier chain (purchased by the foot) at about $8 dollars per foot. Kind of expensive but cutting through one of these suckers is hard to do! Park the generator under the truck and route the chain through the handle on the generator and secure it to the frame of the truck,...

Just my thoughts. I'm excited for you, nmpdk1! Glad to hear you're all trained up and are running with Big Orange!

 

2nd issue, dont worry about the idle, idle all you want bro - esp. since you got cpap - just no more than 70hrs per week and dont buy the coleman coolers, 50% of them malfunction - find the biggest TA Truckstop near your home base and get an "igloo" - newspaper and papertowel the inside bottom and a styrofoam/plywood 2" height from bottom. Place it on top of thick carpet and towel bottom and top insulation, but be careful it doesn fall on top of vent/motor area or you it might catch on fire - Eat one healthy complete low calorie meal for two at restaurants on Tuesdays/Fridays ($45/week in truck - $45/week outside a truck, or $10 a day low cholesterol).......dont forget to take at least a one hour fast walk 4 times a week w/ 30min muscle toning. Other than that, I dont know anything about tankers.

I'm about to switch over to the tanker division. I've been driving can a total of a year and seven months and I'm ready for a new adventure and much better pay.

just finishing my first week sort of bulk training with schneider out in pittsburgh, the herd thins pretty fast! having a blast the training is top notch
im just out of school so its all new to me lol
