You may have read some of my other threads about working in the South Texas shale or Western Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle. I've always tried to help others find work and now I need a little guidance from some of you.
Long story short I may need to move over as close as I can get to Little Rock, Arkansas so I can be close to a family member who needs help from me and my wife. I know there is a shale in Arkansas called the Fayetteville so I suspect there is work tanking something, but I am not sure about the types of tanking or the area to focus on or the companies to seek out. I am very happy tanking crude where I am now (Weatherford, OK) but if family calls then I need to have my ducks in row so I am not out of work for a long period of time.
Do any of you work in the oilfield in Arkansas or maybe some other area where I might look to relocate closer to Little Rock? Thanks!

Sun Coast has a yard in Pine Bluff. That is just south of Little Rock.

i currently live in AR. My brother lives in Central Ar where a lot of the drilling takes place (he draws royalties from a few wells in fact) and my nephew works on one of the frac crews. As far as I know, the wells in AR are gas wells. My nephew moved to Conway (just west of L.R.) in order to be closer to the work, so that's probably not a bad place to look at and it is a very nice area.
It is my understanding that the pay will be less in AR. The real boom here was a couple of years ago. They are still drilling, but it has slowed down quite a bit. JM Oilfield Services out of Quitman, AR is supposedly a good water hauler. I also noticed last week that Dupre Logistics has openings in Little Rock, Fort Smith and Memphis for tanker drivers. Those would all be gas, most likely loading in Memphis and delivering to stations and/or bulk plants in AR. I have no confirmation of that. Personally, I would think Dupre would be a good call to make. You would be in their system and if the situation changes, you could possibly transfer right back to TX as a crude hauler?Stilgar Thanks this. -
Thanks for the comments. I know Sun Coast hauls crude in this area but thought the operation out of Pine Bluff was gasoline.
I have a buddy who works for Dupree in S TX and likes it so I will keep them in mind. Also my uncle's family lives in Conway so I am familiar somewhat with that area. -
Dupree in AR will be hauling gas to c-stores...thats what the recruiter told me. But honestly thats gonna be your best job in that area probably unless you want to do ltl. There is still some gas drilling going on, but not as much as far as I know. Demand for drivers is likely down alot.
Have you considered doing a 3 on/1 off schedule or something so you could continue in crude? -
I have not considered a 3/1 schedule or going OTR. I went into tanking crude because I knew I could get home every night. If I wanted to stay out weeks at a time I could get a job out of the truck paying about the same money, but I really don't want to be gone for long stretches. Long ago I worked in a field where I was gone for months at a time and I don't feel like trading my quality of life and family life away for money. Respect those who do it but it isn't for me. Anyway, thanks for the idea. -
You can try j&m , union, texas transco, two states, m&m, fitzgerald. They are all reasonably close to conway and I know most of then are hiring.eastern tanker is hiring to but they are about an 70miles west of conway.it really shouldn't be hard to find a job out here at all and the cost of living is normally cheap.hope this helps
