Tanking with own authority: Worth it?

    All it takes to put a one tank company out of business +/or in deep dutch with the tank leasing company is to put the wrong stuff in the tank. Re-barreling a tankwagon is expensive....

    If you’re not interested in getting your own accounts then remain a leaser
    Getting your own authority is starting your own business, establishing your own rates and offering yourself and equipment for service at a price, if they like it you’ll work if you’re to high you’ll stay home
    Hauling for brokers is the same as hauling under a lease you’re allowing someone else to tell you what your time is worth

    You can run non haz and do ok, but hazmat insurance is just plane stupid. I asked my broker a couple years ago, he laughed. It was in the $45,000 year range. That was a 2 mil policy with a 3 mil umbrella. Just plane liquid non haz was closer to $16,000 all in.
    Btw, there are a lot of small distributors that work with small guys because they like the service and they'll pay a premium to get food service.
