Why should I? The frieght doesn't pay anymore if it is to be tarped than it wouldn't be. It is a HUGE risk to haul anything that could be filed on your insurance just because a little hole in your tarps got a little water on something. Brokers get paid extra for tarps that I buy, put on, take off and have to replace, and I get nothing extra out of it. Just ask a few brokers if there is any extra pay for tarping the freight.

real steel haulers have a covered wagon or should have one when they grow up.

I'll never grow up...My company likes to watch me sweat.

Well if you don't have a conestoga and the no-tarp stuff pays the same as the tarp stuff you would be an idiot to hand tarp. However it's been my experience that if a broker has a no-tarp load they almost always offer less money. On the phone when I would tell them their rate is cheap they like to come back with "but no tarps are required", so I tell them I have all conestogas so try again.CAXPT Thanks this.

I wouldn't count it as securement either, but I am thinking he might be trying to keep some of the edge protection underneath the tarp from slipping out of place since his tarp is probably not tight enough to hold it in place.
Just a thought. I know I have done some weird looking stuff to avoid cutting my tarps up.

No sorry your giving these guys too much credit If you read some of the post in other steel coil threads these guys actually believe the X straps will actually hold a coil in place. The straps aren't straight with the winches or the hooks but somehow they think they're doing something other than making them look ignorant.

Didn't realize that you have a degree in fizzicks to come up with that fine information. So, according to you, any securement that doesn't go straight across the trailer has no securement value! I'll have to remember that the next time I see a load of slinkys strapped down.
-
You keep X strapping your coils and we'll keep laughing at you.

Ask me if I've ever cared.

I 'll add some fuel to the fire on the over the top securement debate. You have to watch the entire video to get all the info. They did this same demonstration at the truck show this year at Louisville.
As a side note, from some of the comments made in this thread, it appears some people have their way of doing things so set in concrete that they are convinced anything different is wrong.
