so If i have read this thread correctly, If you are an OTR either comany or o/o your tax home would be where ever your comany is based/where you get your assigenments. So in the case of my husband and I who I will be joining him on the road and leaving our permanent residance behind, we can make where ever the company is based out of for state taxes? OR if we set up a residence in one of the non tax for truckers states then our state taxes would be nothing? I would think that after reading this our best bet is to just have what ever state that my husbands company makes his home termanial our tax state. Or if I am not understanding please someone help me to! thanks

Thanks! that does help!
I think if we keep our 'home' as where we have an address now. I don't think we will have any issues. Plus, It would be nice to come back every once and a while and show up my sister and her bf....he he.... -
How do you convince the state of GA that we do not owe taxes as an OTR driver when we live in Florida?
Is there a form to fill out ?
Our company only puts GA and income on the w2 amd they won't change it.
So everyone just says just don't file.
Im afraid that would come back to haunt one in a few years. -
You need to find out if GA and Fla have tax reciprocity, some states do for neighboring states, some do not. If they do then when you file in Fla the tax paid in GA will count. If they do not, then you need to have your company stop withholding it, and pay estimated taxes quarterly, and this year pay Florida and file to get your money back from GA. Perhaps most importantly, talk to a real tax person.

Ok now im lost again.
Florida does not have state taxes.
Company did not with hold GA taxes as we have been told we are suppose to be taxed in our home state being otr drivers. The company itself is in GA, and we might be there 3 nights out of a month.
Company told me to tell them we are there less than 5%. So we don't owe taxes.
I have read the Amtrak Act 1990 that was passed by Congress and read the examples that Oregon has posted as well. And reading those two, it says we don't file GA. -
