If you file your meals by not using a per diem ans use actual expenses, will you only get credit for 50% of that amount?

Per diem rules discussed in this forum apply to otr truckers. Local truck drivers that get home every day do not get the deduction. The current rules allow $59.00 per day but only 80% of that amount is actually deductible.

Use TurboTax. It will automatically figure 80% for you.

Regarding driver per diem, does anyone know where the best online FAQ is? Sorting through forum posts doesn't seem like the most efficient way to get info on the subject.

Just tried Googling "otr per diem faq" (without the quotes) and nothing came up that I was looking for. It appears nobody's ever posted a good FAQ on the subject.

Google transportation industry per diem rates and about 2/3 of the way down the page there is a link to FAQ.
