I would enjoy it better if you hired an accountant. Words such as these should belong in the mouth of a rich man. What on Earth are you doing wasting what I could live on for a year by squandering it on taxes???

Seriously, if I had 26k... I'd take the year off and go to Mexico.

They're mostly disagreeable because the lot of what's spent is spent on the people "representing" us. The second largest bit is spent on services and programs we (the middle class schlubs - is there even a middle class anymore?) don't and perhaps will never use...... We're here grinding it out everyday so asylees can be safe (which fundamentally I have no problem with) and so that the Governor of Maine can get an 80% pay raise. On the surface - neither cause averages out to make my life much better.... But I still have to pay for it.

Wish I could too. That was best case running it through 3 different honest accountants. Trust me I hate having it stolen by our wasteful government only to be squandered away. But im not in the protected class, or check enough boxes to not be audited by the KGB.

If only enough people said F' it and refused to pay and over claimed deductions like some to make them have basically zero income.

Seriously flat tax of 17% would be the best answer. Everyone would pay, uber rich wouldn't be hiding behind investment loopholes of $1 salary and stock options, and someone supposedly living off of couple thousand a year would still pay.

Your causality chain has quite a few flaws and not a few holes

IDK, in a lot of ways, it made me feel like I was contributing to the cause and I felt pretty good about it.
Lately, though, it seems like the folks in Washinton don't really care.
    But, hey, ya gotta pay.

I pay through Nonprofit contributions and volunteering my time. Charity is the real driving force to strengthening our Union. Not taxes.
