That's quite the self righteous sentiment you have there. It's not always that easy to up and change professions. People have their reasons for staying where they are. Some people can't do it for reasons unbeknownst to any of us. We don't know people's situations. Some people have that ability to navigate their career choices, and if they have kids, or a family or whatever situation, there's a real possibility that they can't switch. To answer your other question, I don't mind being taxed if it goes to something that could make my life easier (universal health insurance would be nice). If being taxed more means getting better quality law enforcement, educators, firemen, and health care workers, I'm cool with that.

As for trucker there are several companies out here that pay well. It's up to the driver if he or she continues to work for $400 a week. And sweep trailers and do other free labor. If a driver or drivers don't demand better with in a company. Then why would someone pay them more?

I think if you ask a good teacher (one that actually teaches students to think for themselves, and not just how to pass a test), you'd find that they never went into teaching for the money. They did it because they wanted to. They knew they weren't going to get rich, and did it anyway.

Now, it seems to me that those entering the education field today are looking for the money and the pension, and educating is their secondary goal.

Should they make more? Some should definitely be paid more. And some shouldn't be paid at all, they should be paying the school to come to work.

The one thing about public schools around here I've noticed is the sports programs seem to given whatever they need without question. Meanwhile the teachers are stuck buying supplies out of their pockets. But hey, we have a beautiful football field and locker room, which is off limits to the general student population!

Meanwhile the executives who let Toys R Us fail are getting huge exit bonuses in the bankruptcy deal.

I'm sure its really about asking regular workers to pay higher taxes so teachers can be paid more. It seems like plenty of money is out there.

Actually it's less than half a years work if you consider Xmas break, spring break, fall break, good Friday, columbus day, presidents day, MLK day, and such.

It must really depend on what part of the country you live in. Teachers in my area have the "entitlement" mentality. We deserve more, "it's for the children". Also they seem to always turn a Monday or Friday holiday into an automatic 4day weekend with a "teacher in service day" .

Those that can do, those that can not teach.

Private sector schools pay pretty good around here. My advice would be to get off the government school rolls and find a real job. Getting sick of the folks whining about their career choices.

Well to some $400/week is darned good money. Gotta place to live and sleep, don't have mom opening basement door and yelling, "Hey you gonna do anything today Johnny?" & "Johnny your hot pockets are ready!"
