Both but few team loads are ever listed they will tell you they need a team before they list it that way,,, why i dont know

we take reg loads and ask to change the delivery date ,,, if they cant we either refuse the load or live with date.

I ask that very same question, but it's always nothing in return. But not for long, we will be rolling this comming spring and I promise I will do my best to answer any questions for my fellow truckers. We are doing H/W Teams with our own authority running reefers.

The plan is to hit the road with as little overhead as possible, that's why we decided to wait an extra year. Now we will rent the house out, truck and trailer PAID FOR with aroud $10,000 (maybe a lil more) extra in the bank for repais and fuel. The key here is trying to succeed and not become an statistic of failure like so many before us.

But again we will post as much info. about the whole team o/o as we can. From what I have researched, their is allot of money to be made when its done the correct way. We already have a list of (reefer) brokers that deal with new carriers so it shouldn't be too bad grabbing the first few loads.

The reason you're not getting much response from teams with their own authority, is that aren't that many. I ran team for one trip under my authority out to Seattle and back, just because it happened to work. Being flatbed it wasn't too big of a deal to show up early with the load coming back, but we were still treated as an oddity when I was looking for loads. I've met a few team O/O, all were husband/wife, all had 120"+ sleepers, and all made more money than you can imagine, especially if you're looking at RoadRunner freight rates. All were leased to a percentage carrier. One young couple, maybe under thirty or right there, were having their new truck built by an RV manufacturer with a 180" sleeper. On a load I did, that paid pretty decent, $3 a mile, the team carrying the good stuff made four times what I made.

BTW, $10k at 6,000 miles per week is barely going to get you 2 weeks of running. Average billing, from received by broker, to in your mailbox is 35 days, and many times more. Are you going to factor, or only take quick pay loads? If you're going to factor, you might as well lease on to a percentage carrier as your net will be higher.

Good luck, but be realistic so you don't become a statistic.

I have already thought about leasing to a carrier but I cant seem to find anyone with allot of team freight.

We are a h/w team, 27 years old with no children. We are not interested in those big 107" sleepers, that doesn't impress us at all. I just want to go where the money is. Trying to keep things nice and simple.

You are not being "REALISTIC" suggesting we are going to run 6,000 mpw when we first start off... Yeah right!!! My estimates are 4,000 mpw at best, and $10k will be more than enough to cover fuel cost$.

Yes, we also plan to use quick pay and fuel advances if need be.

What is your advice for a young h/w team, where do you think we will do most good?

Well, you aren't impressed by those sleepers because you've never driven team. You're not going to find a company with a lot of team freight, as it is a specialty. You simply want a company with a team division.

How much experience you have will dictate who you could lease to. How much do each of you have? There are many smaller carriers chomping at the bit for h/w o/o reefer teams. A post here with your experience, truck details, etc would probably solicit a few pm's. Those jobs usually come with a good percentage, fuel card, etc.

A solo can do 4,000 miles per week ( I have many a time). Even still at 6mpg, and $4 per gallon, that is roughly $2,640 in fuel a week. In less than 4 weeks you'll have exhausted your 10k, without one breakdown, or any other bills paid like insurance, trailer and/or truck payments etc. What are you going to do if you don't get paid? I've had bills go 75 days before being paid, on top of the two that were never paid.

I have driven teams for two years at Trans Am trucking actually, and I have seen those sleepers that you are talking about. STILL NOT IMPRESSED!

She has a little over a year and I have 7yrs experience.

What's wrong with getting your own truck, trailer, auth., and hauling the companies like roadrunner and land air freight as a team? Why do we have to lease with them? We dont want to lease with anyone. Leasing to me is just the same as applying for a job with that particular company, it suck!!

Their rates suck!!! That's what is wrong with it. It thought you were going to pull reefer, not van. Not only that, but you will be the first ones to see freight cut when times get lean. I have the RR linehaul rate sheet, so I'm not blowing smoke here. With you guys' experience, I would be where I am in a heartbeat. Even pulling team van, there are dedicated opportunities available that are pretty awesome.

You'll find there is a lot of paperwork and regulatory compliance that needs to be done in order for you to run your own authority. Auditing logs, drug testing, IFTA,KYU,NYHUT, NM reporting, property tax in AR and KS, NJ corp tax if you are corp or llc, and everything comes with a fine if not done correctly or on time. I guarantee I missed a few, besides billing, finding loads, granting credit and chasing money. There are whole heck of a lot more rules with monetary penalties, than filling out an app for a company. Try getting dinged for $8,000 by IFTA for not writing down odometer readings.
More power to you if you want to do it, I figured out after 6 1/2 years, I could make MORE MONEY and have less headaches running for Landstar.
