Hello all,
I am about to get into a CDL School, I don't have to pay I just have to get approved by a company pre-hire, and tuition reimbursement yada yada yada.
This is not what I am looking for advice on, and I am also not looking to be told the company is garbage etc.......
I have asked google a few questions I don't see.
With the school and company the restrictions are that we will be Driving Teams for 6 months. The company Us xpress.
My questions are.
1. What if my teammate wants hometime but I want to run. Can I continue to run until they find a substitute.
2. Who's truck is it I mean if we don't jive, who has to leave the truck.
3. As a new driver will I be teamed with someone green like me, or someone with experience.
4. If they quit or request a new driver, how long does it take to get another driver and will I continue driving until they do.
5. If it becomes a habit, which from what I read it very well maybe. If I have to go through the process of 3-4 new team members, can I opt out and run Solo.
Also off the wall bonus question-
Why does everyone say they will stick it out for one year with a company and the a month or two go to another company. Why is there so much company hopping.
Thanks

That's up to company
Both of you'rn
God help you if you are teamed with Greenie.
Who is this they? You are the more likely to quit request etc. You generally are assigned to a trainer's truck.
If a Team quit one or both, then thats the end of the team.
You do not have a habit of going through several and you will not be able to opt out. One way or another you will be with someone for a while.
If you quit, fired etc so many are... you become essentially unhireable because your employment is not stable. No one will invest in your hire.
Most companies have something structurally effed within them, you find out what it is and move on after your first year to better pastures. -
Company will issue truck to one driver.
If one driver wants to stay out, they will run you solo.
Trying to sleep in a moving truck is not an easy task.
Not many people care to team,so finding a new partner takes time.
You will be running solo waiting for a new team mate.
Some people like to sit around and play video games all day- choose a refer company.
Some folks would rather run long haul, and choose their own driving schedule.
I hated multi stop loads..watching my time tick away. -
I am sure it deoends on the company. I know very little about US Xpress.
But i have been teaming for over a year now I can answer with my experience and maybe it will be similiar with you.
1. My company keeps me moving whether my partner is available or not. If my partner has to leave, they get another driver. Or the rare occasion there is no one, I layover and they give me layover pay. $150 per 24 hr period.
2. Its the companies truck and we are entitled to space 50/50.
3. My current partner has 2 years of experience. When I need a replacement due to my partner being unavailable its usually with a guy with only a couple months experience. It sucks, in my case most guys will do stuff that makes me cringe when i see it. Its a wild ride driving with most bran-new drivers.
4. I have never waited longer than a couple of days for a driver.
5. I dont know I haven't asked for solo yet. I like the big team checks.
Bonus.. Lots of reasons. I suspect some folks make impulsive emotional decisions. They get made and bail instead of waiting until they cool down and make the decision with a calm level head. Also everyone wants to be rich right now. Its like money... It can grow for you with interest, but it takes time, patience, and discipline.
Hope this helps you. -
The answers might vary between divisions of a company also. The division i am in is a lot better than linehaul. We work harder but we enjoy priority status and additional accessorial pays the other drivers dont get the last I checked.

I missed a few parts...
Who leaves the truck is up to the company. I have probably been in about 8 different trucks in the year i have been on the road.
I dont know this for certain but I seems like my company tries to keep "veteran" drivers together and rookies together. Why? Once you get some drive time under you going out with fresh meat greenhorns is exhausting... And you wont be getting any kind of training pay. They make a lot of mistakes which you would have to correct and bran new rookies wake you up a lot and they drive rough...
An experienced driver paired with a new driver sounds good to the rookie, but not the other fellow. LOL.
I only been on the road a year, but theres a big difference between a 1 year driver and a 1 month.
When you get out on the road go easy, gently. Make it a point to be graceful with the truck. There is someone behing you trying to sleep.
Easy on the controls.Nathanos Thanks this. -
People quite because trucking is not like they thought it would be. Running team is even harder then running solo, I think. Sleeping while someone is driving is not so easy. Usually you go with a trainer, then some companies put two new driver in a truck and run them as experienced trams when they are new driver. So people quite. When I was a trainer we had to run teams loads at 1,200 miles a day. That's got old and I was tired and so was the new driver. I quit being a trainer because of that. We could only stop the truck like 2 hours a day to keep on schedule.

why do people overthink all of this?
This is not rocket science.
