I am in the same boat as you and your wife were in this time last year. I am enjoying reading your threads. My husband and I are with different trainers right now and I sure do miss him after 4 weeks. We actually got lucky and were at the same terminal on the same night 3 times in 4 weeks so we got a hotel. My husband has about 4 or 5 days left to train and I probably have 2 weeks due to slow freight and the truck being down...boohoo. I cant wait to read on and see what happens after you get your own truck and get the miles.

Since you & your wife were in my shoes last year I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me about logs. I want to stay legal and everyone gives me different answers. For the following, can you tell me which line I should be on and what to flag it as?

    1. Bathroom break (15 min)
    2. Meals (15 min or more)
    3. pre trip (15 min or more)
    4. post trip (15 min or more)
    5. live unload - load

My mentor is great but he told me to go straight to sleeper birth after driving and flag it as post trip...not on line 4.

When we arrive at a shipper or receiver he has me log to line 1..off duty until they are done.

    I appreciate your advice.

For meals and bathroom breaks, log to line 1, off duty
Pretrip is line 4, on duty at least 15 minutes
Posttrip for usx just log to sleeper birth, line 2 and complete your vehicle inspection report from the main menu.
Live load, although not really correct, I log 15 minutes on duty and then go to line 1. Otherwise it will eat up your 70. Always log 15 minutes on line 4 for a drop and hook also.

i can see me and logs are going to have fun when and if they put me on elog, they realy going to hate me,

nothing in fmcsa reg that requier a post trip insp..... fmcsa is pre trip (15 min) post trip walk around (flag) OR pre trip walk around (flag) post trip insp (15min) don't have to do the 15min to start AND stop you shift and logs has checked mine a few times and never said a word about it. but if they want me to log 15min pre and 15min post all they need to do is show me the fmcas reg and i will

but then the elog does daylight standed time/daylight savings time change wrong too

Safety looked at mine and said i was fine. That being said, I would always rather beg forgiveness than ask permission. And gain almost two hours a week on my 70

Don't forget line 4 for fuel either...

They got on to us for not logging 15 mins for pre-trip, so now we log it and straight to sleeper for post, and just flag it. We run teams as well, and I see no reason I should do a post trip and my co-driver do a pre-trip, but USX said we had to(in tunnel hill). Fuel, log it line 4 as fast as you can get it.

As far as anyone who thinks you are supposed to log getting loaded as on-duty time, why? If you are not responsible for the truck/load(when you get loaded you can go to McDonalds or wherever, or sleep), then you do not have to log line 4.

I'm not as concerned to their opinion of the law as I am a DOT officer. I've had my logs checked, and you do not have to log post-trip. As said above, only required to do a pre-trip, that's the only reason you have to log it.
