What a great week, we had 5128 miles on this paycheck which is so-so but we had a nice long haul that did not deliver until Wednesday morning in California so it did not make the cutoff. We will have over 8500 miles on next weeks paycheck going into home time in Seattle.....pretty sweet. Had dinner with my Son and his Wife and our wonderful Grandkids last night in Chattanooga. Man I love this job. We are currently rolling across Missouri heading for the great NorthWest and five days off.

You have sold so many people on driving for USX (including me) by your very honest approach via your posts and especially your blog. I'm not sure if USX has any kind of "Team of the Year"...but you would certainly have my vote.
You enjoy some much needed time off with your family up north and once again congrats on what is looking like a great month for you both.
The DicemanNoCoCraig Thanks this. -
I've got orientation on the 6th in Chicago. Can't wait to get rolling.
I had orientation scheduled with Werner, but an issue came up. I'm glad it did because USX seems like a MUCH better company. -
I'll be there the 6th also. Looking forward to getting back on the road.

Great thread Craig, sounds like you've found your calling! I'm also looking to start driving and have registered to start at a local community college Aug. 13th. I'm interested in USX, but have heard one can't solo directly after training, have to be teaming for a period. Anyone know anything about this? Also, I'm also considering skipping the college and go to work for FFE: I've already got my cdl permit and endorsements, just need training on the truck to test/ Opinions anyone?

Thank you.
Thee only problem with going with a company that trains you for your cdl is they own you for at least a year. if you leave for any reason early, you will have to pay them for the schooling. -
Oops.......we are on a frozen seafood run from Boston MA to Anaheim CA. When I got the bills in Boston, the weight listed was 34,600. I sent mac 3 and sealed the trailer and we were off. In Missouri, we got pulled into a weigh station and we were 3,200 pounds on our tandems. Also, our gross was over 78,000.... What????? The DOT guy was great and let me adjust the tandems to make us legal. I pull out the bill and see that the "NET" weight was 34,600 but the GROSS was just under 40,000. (Gross was typed on the bill to the left outside the box and over some other typing, I never saw it) I thought we felt heavy...lol.
So the problem is, we cannot get legal for California. CA has this stupid rule that the kingpin can be no more than 40' from the center of the rear axle. No way I can make that happen. My fault and I will be driving tonight when we go through CA so we are just going to try and get away with it. Cajon Pass is the station I am worried about but we will hit there about 3AM. Wish me luck. -

Second thing is something I was told in school back in '04 and I've always stuck to, scale all loads that are 30k or more gross. Sometimes they load it funny and your over on an axle. Other times they just don't have a clue as to what their product really weighs. Just last week I picked up a load that said 36,800lbs on the BOL, scaled out at 78,500lbs which meant the load was more like 45,000lbs.SheepDog Thanks this.
