    Whats up guys
I'm six months in and i'm really not satisfied with the money as a new solo driver. I know all that, ie. the new guy/you picked the job/deal with it/ect. ect. ect, But I'm intrested in maximizing my time to earning potential and I'd like to know what the experienced team guys think about the switch. I don't have any ties so i can stay out 2 months at a time, right now #.24 cpm with schneider thats averaging around 350.-450. per week WITH per diem. I just want to roll and make some cash. What do you experienced guys think about the move?. Date of posting is 11/20/10

Unless you're running teams with your spouse/significant other, it's not going to net you anymore money, as the money will be split between you and your co-driver. I drove solo and team with a friend. Didn't make any more money running team.

You really don't make more money and you're twice as tired because the truck is always rolling. After you drive for a year you might be able to find a better paying job.

    foodmojo Thanks this.

Just think of it like this.
    You split say
    $.30
    $.32
$.34 CPM and what are you getting a mile?
    HMMM ?????

    Try
    $.15
    $.16
    $.18 a mile!
WOW an you're getting this as a per mile rate!
    ROFLMAO!
Now would you drive solo for those rates?
    Stay where you are!
    Get the experience you need.
THEN go look for greener pastures!
DO NOT BELIEVE A RECRUITER! EVER!
They make used car salesmen look like Mother Teresa's!
Talk to drivers of that gleam in your eyes that you are looking at and not their web site or BS ad in a truck stop paper, news paper want ad or Craig's list ad!
    But splitting pay??
Oh pick my silly old arse off the floor before I laugh it (my arse) off!

Nope, because there are always loading/unloading times to deal with, traffic snarls, and the other stuff that happens in trucking, and that doesn't change because you run teams. My pay didn't go up any.

They may be driver/recruiters. Not everyone makes that kind of money, and you have to remember that you are splitting that with your co-driver.

even if you were gonna make more money, is living with someone else in a rolling jail cell worth the headache? one of the best lesson's i've learned early on is that if you can spend a few bucks or lose a few bucks and avoid a headache, its almost always worth it. money comes and goes but your mental stress and blood pressure are things that can ruin you.

    Lilbit and DJ4wd Thank this.

I'm not trying to say I know better than the experienced answers you've received here, but...

With some searching you might find a team job that pays better. The headaches of living with another driver in a truck are not for me, but that's for you to decide. One of my instructors in school (was actually my next door neighbor for a month or two) at one time drove for a place that was 95% team driving pulling super B's. He made less per mile, but it was still over 30 cpm and he was making around 70k per year there. That job required two or three years clean driving to get, but I'm sure there are others that are at least better than what you have now that will take new drivers. Shoot, I'm making $500 a week in training! Good luck, pumpkin! :biggrin_25523:
