Left out another little item, the pay split is quite often not a 50/50. The Lead Driver (the most experienced) gets 60% and the 2nd driver (you) gets 40%. Plus you get issues about "whose truck it is", who makes all the decisions like where and when you stop, etc, etc, etc.

    Thanks kitty,
so your saying that the lead driver will drive more than the second driver?
Sounds like it's more training long term than it is "Quote" ; "TEAMS". If thats the case it should just be called : Train for years, do what your told, shut the %^*& up and make less, and if you got to piss you can use your drink cup!. I'm six months new to the trucking bizz and am just amazed how little respect truckers give each other and as well the consignee/shippers .

Yeah I was thinking of changing companies but the longer i stay the better it will look i'm sure, this .24 cpm crap sucks. Some companies will pull you after 6 months but i'm sure with the increase in cpm and truck upgrade there's no gaurantee of how many miles you'll get which keeps you basically at square 1 again. Just don't want to make the wrong decision.

I run team with my husband.

You need to keep in mind that the information you're being giving is not always true for every company. Some companies split the miles, some split the cpm. Some give the lead more than set 2, some companies do a 50-50 split.

You see each person will respond with the answer they know and a great deal of the time they think it's the only answer. And it's not.

Can you make more as a team? Yes, at some companies on some fleets. Is it hard? Dear Lord yes. Do we as individuals make more than the solo drivers on our fleet? Yeah. But then they get to stop their trucks and many of them go home each night. We just keep going and going and going. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not.

    But the money is good.

    Thanks nana
I think thats why i should seriously think about it because I WANT to stay out 8 weeks at a time, and the way i look at it if i can't make it solo for the same time out, well then..........you know? And i'm a pretty easy going dude (old hippy personality kinda but cleaner) so I think i won't stress out to much on anyone and besides, if who ever i run with is that much of a pshyco i'm not going to stress. I'll just ask to be dropped off on a corner , call a cab, have a beer, go to the airport and start again. :biggrin_25515::biggrin_25515::biggrin_25515::biggrin_25515:

I drove team most of my career and actually prefer it. You really need to be paired up with the right person though in order for it to work. You also need to find someone you can trust driving while you are back there sleeping. Speaking of sleeping, that will take some time to adjust to. I recommend ear plugs and a body pillow. The body pillow works great as a kickstand to keep you from rocking back and forth. Ear plugs, self explanatory. Another thing that really helps a lot is low count thread sheets. This makes them not so slippery and you won't be sliding all around back there. A big plus too is an all foam mattress instead of the ones with the springs in them, like the standard issue. This keeps you from bouncing all around and greatly reduces "nose tickle". You get "nose tickle" from all the vibrations and a foam mattress helps muffle that.
Another thing to think about is where your partner lives. If you live in Tx and he lives in Fl then that makes home time a mess.
As a team operation you guys are going to get a lot more drop and hook and a lot more "hot loads". Teams also get a lot of the loads that single drivers can't make in time. On average most companies expect their teams to do 1000 miles a day. Team driving means you are really hustling. No more hanging around truck stops and such. It used to suck driving by rest stops and truck stops and seeing all the truckers getting a good nights rest. When you do stop and get some sleep though it will be some of the hardest sleep ever! Good rip van winkle, coma, hibernation sleep!

I think its time you find a new company to drive for, I've only been OTR for a little over a month and my TAKE HOME is $600-715 a week.....:biggrin_25511: And I'm only getting .25cpm.
