My wife and I are in our 2nd week of team driving. We're having trouble with getting restful sleep while the other person drives. We bought a 12 inch memory foam/inner coil spring hybrid mattress. It helps. We use a sleep mask and ear plugs. If you've ran as a team, can you tell me how long it took you to get used to sleeping in a moving truck? Any other pointers or ideas?

Never got used to sleeping in the driving truck. I know some drivers use NyQuil to fall asleep (don't know if it's legal). My problem was waking up too often while truck was moving.

    The answer is two.

2 fingers of bourbon before bed and 2 lines of coke when you wake up.

This. Eventually you will get so tired, that you will start falling asleep easily. Hope you guys have an automatic transmission.

    1) stay with-in the speed limits, going above the speed limits, makes the sleeper more apt to bounce more

    2) try and stay in a lane that has (seemingly) less bumps

    3) take turns slower, that curves slower,

    4) take exit ramps slower, start off or stop at red lights, stops signs smoother,

    5) do not just go to the sleeper, and try to sleep. read a book, or magazine

    6) do not drink ANY beverages with caffeine or eat sugary snacks,

    7) lower the volume on the radio

    8) maybe find a portable/battery operated "white noise" cd player

It really does take a special kind of person to sleep through a bouncing truck, I can sleep on a plane seat located right next to the jet engine through a storm with turbulence but I can’t sleep in a moving truck. Go figure.

I guess it all boils down to the co driver and how safe you feel. If you are not comfortable with the co-driver the anxiety will eat your sleep time.

My husband and I team. We use melatonin. It helps and doesn't give you that tired hungover feeling.

If you're tired enough you'll sleep. Doing team food service i could sleep all the way through the cross Bronx after 12+ hours humping food LOL

on a personal note, i have tried that stuff.....does not work for me, and i suspect it does not work for many others.

i have tried actual OTC sleeping pills.....they do not work for me either.

i have tried NyQuil, or it's ingredient ZZZ quil (or something like that) on it's own.........does not work for me either.

one can spend all sorts of money on snake oil remedies, and still not be able to sleep, in a moving truck.

    just' sayin'
