My Samsung Galaxy is my Hotspot , never had a issue with security. Laptop is always updated when at home , I store a broker file on my desktop that has all important files for easy sign up . I use a app on my phone for signing documents and I can use it on my Laptop as well . I have a app for fax if needed. I find using DAT on my laptop more user friendly and better than phone app .
Entertainment wise I Have a youtube premium membership, Netflix and Hulu ,Amazon prime video . Everything streams from my phone and I use a hell of alot of data but my Tmobile plan is unlimited. Ps4 and Laptop if I want to game . Oh a all in one printer hooked up via the hotspot to the laptop and phone . I definitely rely on today's technology without a doubt.

I mainly use my phone for almost everything. I do have a gaming laptop in my truck that I need occasionally. It's turned on a few times a week to game and the rare occasion I need to for a packet or something. Also have a printer scanner that is hooked up to the wifi in my truck. But I mostly use it with my phone

Far as virus an such...
Think of it as street smarts, but online. lol. If it feels sketchy, get the #### out.
I don't recommend Anti-virus programs anymore to people. To many of them out there. Currently I use the one that came with windows 10, AVG, and a couple others. I stay away from Nortons and Macafee. If i had to choose one or the other...it would be Norton's. Both experiences sucked but Norton's sucked less. LOL
Most folks have their favorites, figure out what works best for you and your needs.
Malware sucks. Viruses suck.
I do the above and other than a few issues with Malware I've not had many issues in all the years I've been online.
As another suggested...bite the bullet. Do the updates, then either disable the updates, or set them to occur when you want them to. Trick is getting caught up first.
An seriously...stay away from the porn sites, the "YOU WON!" sites, or the "Click here for free stuff you know there is going to be a catch on and your going to hate it" sites, etc. Commonsense...it applies to computer safety to.
Good luck,

OK, while we’re on the subject. What’s the scam on Craigslist? They want you to email them. It’s always a great deal, usually a hot sounding girls email. No phone #. I heard they hack your computer/ phone, and acess your bank accounts, if possible. If that’s true, why do they have to receive an email? Why can’t they just look some email addresses up and do their scamming?

In my cab are two Android tablets who running 5 apps at a time: SmartTruckRoute - truck navigator, KeepTruckin - ELD, Drivewyze - weigh station bypass, Google Maps, and Waze - help me know what's ahead on the road.
On my laptop, I work with the DAT load board to find the freight and with google sheets, where I have all my paperwork, accounting, and analytics. Coding some scripts that automatically emailing my scanned paperwork and generate reports.
Also, I scan all my paperwork and save it on Google Drive.

Chrome books are badically android phones on speed. So fast loading and updating. Less likely to get a virus. Windows. If you can get the bloat free version on line it only updates critical pieces and even then it's rare. AVG is good for free. But common sense is better. Use both. lol
Streaming I use Kodi w/the crew addon. Free movies and tv shows.
You can use a VPN. But likely don't need it.
If your tethering is getting capped. Use pdanet+ to hide it.
I'm not out "there" yet. But these are basic things for all.Rideandrepair Thanks this.
