My company recently started installing Teletracs in a few of our trucks. We will not be using them for logs. We will still use paper logs. Can DOT check the teletrac unit during an inspection or during an audit even if we are using paper logs?

They can check any electronic "footprints".

Even worse, if there is an "incident", an enterprising lawyer can subpoena the information and compare it to a log and use it for basis of a lawsuit against that driver and company. I really couldn't care less about what the DOT may find out. It is what the law firm of Burn 'em and Run can do. The DOT may impose a fine, but a law firm can ruin your life. I would advise that you try to keep your log as close to what you are doing as possible. Guess it depends on how much risk you want to take.

I agree . DOT audits are nothing compared to attorney discoveries . They'll find some way to prove you negligent . Don't make it easy for them .
