Just wondering if many truck drivers have TV's in their trucks and if the TV's are reliable.

My bf right now just has a laptop and even though its possible to watch shows on a laptop he has trouble watching any type of videos (besides DVDs) because of the lack of connection I guess.

Also we have netflix and that would keep him entertained except for the lack of connection making it nearly impossible to watch videos online.

Since his laptop is not working well I was thinking of getting him a TV that includes a DVD player but if they don't work well then I won't waste my money.

    What do you think?

Get him a TV AND a DVD player, NOT a TV with a DVD player.
Reason: if one breaks, you don't have to replace both.

Most modern TVs hold up pretty good in the truck. I have only had to get a TV fixed ONCE, and that was a CRT tv about a dozen years ago.
I have only had TWO TVs in the truck since. Latest one is a 24in LCD that is now 6 years old.

I have a Sprint card and can watch Netflix and HULU just fine in major metro areas.

Switched from a laptop to a 19 inch in mine with a dvd player seperate...just remember to strap it or cushion it somehow and you`ll be fine.

Anyone out there using any of the tv tuner cards or something similar to get tv thru your laptop? I have a Verizon wireless card and use Hulu, but was just wondering about other options, such as watching local tv (like news programming) when parked in a major area. Thoughts?

I have used them before. They work as well as a TV in the truck once set up. That takes a little longer. I have a 19 inch flatscreen now. It works great. When I don't have a station I hook the TV up to my laptop with a VGA cable to watch movies and TV shows I have recorded at home or downloaded. Don't have to mess with DVD disks that way. I haven't done it but you can set up your home computer to allow you to control it remotely to record shows. A USB hard drive can hold a lot of shows. I tunes sells them as well.

My bf already has a good size laptop but I have not heard of a TV tuner card. What's that? We have Sprint by the way.

Does that help videos come in better to the laptop?

Because my bf could prob use hulu already on his laptop but the slow and halting connection of most truck stops makes it impossible for him to watch a video uninterupted.

He used his laptop alot on his downtime but mostly for text websites, not videos.

I am in a company truck and cannot drill holes for a wall mount so I built a frame out of plywood and 2X4's. I left the base on the TV and drilled holes into plywood to match the holes on the back of the TV. Its pretty sturdy. My truck had holes in the cabinet for straps to hold the old style TV in place. I drilled holes into the plywood base to match those holes, bolted one side down and bungeed the other. I can rotate the whole thing out to access the connections on the back.
