at 17k that may sway my decision,,, wow that is alot for insurance is most of the cost involved liabilty?
dont take offence to it but imagine how you would be treated in a terminal in hamburg
do you think if the estimated miles were half what you are doing the insurance would be quite a bit less?

Unless you know somebody that will work with you truck driving is a full time gig. Its like I said fixed cost goes down the more the truck runs. Trucking companies that hire new drivers are going to squeeze every last drop of labor out of you. When I drove for England they purposely kept me out of the southeastern US so I wouldnt be tempted to go home. Better to hear it now than find out the hard way. CDL Training is 3 weeks that you pay for without a paycheck and 6 more weeks with minimal pay.
1 million liability and 100k cargo
insurance is fixed cost.
Ich Kann Deutch sprechen. I can speak German. I was stationed in Germany with the 3rd Infantry in Germany in the 80's. The Germans would treat you like crap but sell you car parts with amazing efficiency. -

Muleskinner <strong>"Shining Beacon of Chickenlights"</strong>
As for me being a Trucker,I don't know what to put down for time that would be truthful and my friends wouldn't gouge me.In '81 and while still in high school,I purchased a B Mack to build a combination welding/winch/float truck out of .Restored it in shop classes and got it on the road and promptly sold it to someone who thought a heck of a lot more of it than I did(He owns it till this day and it still has my shiney ppg red on it).I think the B's are kinda considered a class 8 truck. So I could ethically say I've been involved in trucking for 27 years but that would be misleading since I've done several other things too.Any time I was doing other things though I still was fooling with chicken trucks.A Marmon, B model Mack quite a few Pete 359s and a Baby doll KW plus I've drove several others for o/o.I've owned quite a few and am in the middle of a trade on the ol'Reo in my pics. Some I've ran, some I've just worked on and got disgusted and sold and some I've went broke and HAD to sell and now my fave of all time my health made me sell. Not whining, just the game.So if you wanna go with 27 years I'll give you some VERY good advice.DON"T GET ####Y .Trucking has eat the lunch of people that are a hell of a lot smarter while they are asleep about trucking than you are when you're awake. You can wake up in the morning, fire your truck up and have the world by the nads at 5am and by noon you're sitting beside the road with your head in your hands and sick to your stomach because you have a hole in your block you could put a Posey county watermelon in and the cops are on your ### about oil scattered for a 1/2 mile. And if that happens (AND IT WILL IF YOU STAY IN IT LONG ENOUGH) would you rather have a 90 day wonder in a Volvo pull over to help you who is just a steering wheel holder or a Chicken Trucker.Chances are the Rooster cruiser knows where there are 10 motors laying, what the guy wants for them and has his cell number, his daughters cell number and 15 mechanics numbers with reasonable shop rates and tries to help you get set up before the draggin wagon even gets there. So be humble, show respect ,pray for good luck and get your learn on or you'll be back at your prior proffesion talking crap about your "good old days" as a O/O and hiding out from the crediters phone calls.Arrogance won't get you far in this biz so you need to lay off the holier than thou attitude.Be safe. -

King sorry to disappoint you but the first link posted proves NOTHING in the way of insurance value.
2nd both links come from Volvo's website so of course they are going to say good things about their product. I can go find the same sort of thing off of KW, Pete, and Freightliner's websites.
3rd the second link to the wreck story doesn't prove any thing at all either. I can go find you a KW T6 with ONE phone call that the driver wrecked and TORE THE CAB COMPLETELY OFF THE TRUCK AND THE DRIVER WALKED AWAY.
Sorry but those links don't prove any thing when it comes to the claims that Volvo are better. They are nice stories, and one that can be found about probably every truck manufacture.
