im interested in truck driving. seems like it would be a fun job, get to see new things, talk to people, and get a decent pay. i currently make ~40k$ at my present job ( not driving ) and am not enjoying it.

things i would like in a driving job
    - no more than 3 overnights somewhere at one time, and keep these long stays to a minimum
    - open to working weekends, but i dont want EVERY weekend
    - need to make what i am making now as a starting point
    - home time is important, have wife and 2 kids ( they also understand i need to work, hence the no more than 3 overnights at one time )

tell me honestly, this is not a bs post. im curious, and i dont want to invest time/money into something i wont be happy at. thanks in advance!

A couple of your requests(demands?) conflict with each other, no working weekends yet want to make 40k. If you want to make that you will be driving weekends unfortunately.

requests/demands are stronger words than i was thinking of.

im more or less tossing these comments out there, to people who do this job everyday to see if i have real world expectations. i dont mind working weekends, just dont want to work every weekend. maybe 2 weekends a month? again, let me know if i am way outta the league here. i dont know what i am looking at getting myself into, thats why im here. learning!

Exspect nothing and you won,t be desappointed, from what posted I would say you need a local route but you won,t make the money your wanting for the first year at least, good luck and I truly hope you find a job in driving you like, it is a lifestyle.

Preferences then. A motivated person with the right equipment/dispatcher could make close to 40k in the first year but you won't be home much. Much less having weekends off.

How attached are you to North kacalakey ? have you looked at the oil patch threads on here ? I'm in Myrtle Beach and I'm going to Tx. No problem making that ( and more ) out in the patch. Just might be worth looking into. Good Luck.

what is a reasonable/average expected pay right out of school? ballpark numbers here, i know nothing is set in stone. ill end up paying for school, the local community college offers it. i looked into cre, but i keep reading bad review after bad review, so im gonna stay away from that company. iirc the local college has the school for 1k$. is it an wise option to be an o/o right out of school? that way im guessing i could set my own schedule? i understand if the wheels aint turning im not making money. im just trying to get a good feel of the industry and seeing if it would fit into my home life.
