    Long story short:

I drive milk tankers in CA, and am sick of this state.
Lived here my whole life, but fleeing seems inevitable.
    The taxes here are insane.
The politicians are even more insane.
Any good leads as to a good company in the great state of TX?
Really only looking for local and prefer tankers, but am open to anything.
Need to be home daily, and am not afraid of long days.

CA is one of the lowest property tax states and TX is one of the highest. Wherever you go the govt will get theirs it just depends on how they get it. Contribute more to your 401k to lower your effective tax rate. But to answer your question Loves seems to have tons of openings in TX. http://jobs.loves.com/gemini/go/Gemini-Motor-Transport/401311/

Yeah, I suppose the grass is always greener it seems.
Just a brainstorm at this point.
Everyone I know is leaving the state.
    Getting pretty lonely out here.

Where do you want to live in Texas? There are lots of milk haulers all over the state. Even though oilfield has slowed down, there's still quite a bit of hazmat local work too.

Higher wages, lower cost of living, and lack of state income tax should offset any animosity you would feel towards high property taxes.

If you have a lot of choice in where you want to move, Oklahoma is a another good place to live. Low state income tax, very low property taxes, and low cost of living. Okies are a bit less ####y than Texans, but either are leaps and bounds better people than you are used to in California.

Its pretty easy to land a 70k plus per year tanker job with great benefits in either state. I worked for Enterprise Crude Oil ... 5 on, 2 off, 5 on, 3 off, usually worked around 50hrs a week, home every night and made 90k in my last year there. Had the option of putting in more time to make even more $$$.

I don't know TX well enough to pick a specific area. Been through there a few times, but only saw it from the hwy. I like the idea of being somewhere near a nice lake, since I am an avid boater.
Yeah, CA is not the state I grew up in any more. It's a cesspool, and it's getting worse.

I know what you mean. I lived in the Bay area for 8 yrs in the 80s and then bailed.
As for tanker jobs in TX..... Houston is the chemical capital of the state. Plenty of tanker jobs. Just depends
on your experience. Hauling milk is always low paying. Chemicals/hazmat is the way to go. If you can get on hauling fuel, that's a good gig too. But you may have problem getting hired, but try Mission and Coastal. Suncoast are good too, but pay by the hour.
I think you will find companies willing to train you.
As for property taxes, both states are comparable IMHO, TX is high, that;s for sure but we don't have state income tax. and we aren't in a 4 yr drought like CA. The recent storms we have had has filled up the reservoirs
You can buy a nice house in Houston for $150K- $200K ....That's impossible in CA, where the same house could run you $500K and up. . You might want to consider San Antonio too.
    Good luck.

Well if income tax is one of your issues you could look into WA and TN. I spent a lot of time in TX when I was OTR and didn't particularly care for it. Plus they have the same immigration issues that we do in CA. Seems like a downgrade in a lot of ways. I was strongly considering moving to TN in the Knoxville area, there are beautiful houses along the TN river for way cheap compared to out here. A 20% down payment in CA could pay cash for something nice out there.

Superior tank lines pays $24 per hour in WA, cost of living is reasonable up there too, at least compared to here.

Yea it snows up there but when it does, at least they are prepared for it, unlike the boneheads in TX. I was caught up in that big ice storm a couple winters ago, what a mess.

I have thought about TN too. Been there many times. Beautiful state. It's on the list.
